Story
When Elwood Curtis, a black boy growing up in 1960s Tallahassee, is unfairly sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called the Nickel Academy, he finds himself trapped in a grotesque chamber of horrors. Elwood’s only salvation is his friendship with fellow “delinquent” Turner, which deepens despite Turner’s conviction that Elwood is hopelessly naive, that the world is crooked, and that the only way to survive is to scheme and avoid trouble.

Sad and Ugly part of American history
Reviewed: 05-29-25
This broke my heart to find out this place actually existed and that type things that went on in the school really happened. Disturbing, Sad, heartbreaking and inhumane. The story was captivating, engaging and paced very well. The narrator was great. I could tell which character was which. The twist at the end did surprise me in a heart-felt way. The actual history of the Doizer School for Boys is a sad, ugly part of American history. Those boys deserved so much better.

It was okay, but I expected more nail-biting suspense. I didn't like how the ending abruptly ended. Some of characters got on my nerves. I wanted something more sinister with a cliffhanger for a potential sequel.

Reviewed: 10-08-24
OMG! This story was engaging and I ate every bit of it up. I love horror movies featuring creepy, evil living dolls/puppets. It is so hard to find them in book form. This suppressed my expectations. I loooooved it! More evil/possessed dolls/puppets stories please and thank you! PupKin puppet is what nightmares are made of. I need a sequel! lol The movie adaptation of this better do this story justice or level it up! Can't wait to see this on the big/small screen.

Can't get enough of Frendo
Reviewed: 09-13-24
This was a good addition to the book series. I love Adam Cesare's writing style. The story is fast-paced and engaging. I love that Quinn Maybrook went vengeful rogue on the Frendo followers. There were definitely some gnarly kills in this one. Adam never fails with the horror. He gives his readers what they want and I love that. The narrator of this series is amazing. Please, keep using her! 🙏🏾 My only con is I wish Cole and Russ were more iinvolved in this book like the first two. That being said, bring on more FRENDO! The ending of this book would be a great setup and concept for the next book. Can't wait to see the movie adaptation of the first book. 😍

This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

Three low-income families have been given a handsome retainer to join Geraldine Borden for a day at her cliffside estate. All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. But there’s a reason the structures in the bowels of her gothic castle have taken so long to develop—they were never meant to see the light of day.

Overall, it kept me engaged and couldn't stop listening till the very end. if violence towards children don't mix well with you, AVOID IT! Not for the faint of heart.
