Story
War is hell. It cost Gary Cross his military career, his love, and left him with a roadmap of scars that serve as a constant reminder of everything he lost. Out of that tortured past came something extraordinary—CrossBow Protection, one of the premiere bodyguard services in the US. Michael Kennedy has been Gary Cross’s personal assistant for nearly a year. He’s come to understand why none of his predecessors lasted more than a few months. Gary Cross is snarly, prickly, and snappy, and those are his good points. But Michael is not like the others—as Gary is about to find out.

...long after the last page is (Figuratively) turned.❤
I very much enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It had a complex cast of characters who were believable & Held my interest. The main characters had their Fatal flaws and also complex backstories that added interest to the love story , (hot!). Indeed, each character grew from the beginning to the end of the book you could see the arc of the character development. I like that very much. I could reduce the story to a troupe , But that would do it a disservice.
In fact, I listened / enjoyed this audiobook 3 times before writing my review. So good!
I liked very much was the way the story caused me to feel various emotions like sadness, humor, joy ,optimism as well as anxiety and curiosity. I admit,, I had to close my eyes at the parts that were a little less pleasant. They contributed to the story and were thus necessary. 1 could say this was a meaty book. This is the kind of book you read and do not forget immediately. It stays with you.
Narrator John Solo does an excellent performance of this book and I enjoy every time I hear his voice. He defines the characters both in voice and tone . He has that ability to bring a book to life and adds so much Between the lines. He has a pleasant voice and his accents are believable. I rarely find that he mispronounces words. Sometimes these things can ruin parts of the book for me. I truly appreciate a narrator who does his / her homework.
He is 1 of my Favorite narrators/performers!
I highly recommend this book and am so looking forward to other writings by this duo of authors!
(Apologies for poor editing of this review, Vision problems are making it very difficult. I so am appreciative of audible recordings. Thank you, authors, For audible recordings.)

Good storey, good characters. The storey felt like it was a bit choppy. The dialogue a bit abrupt. the affection forced. I like this authors books and will read the next where i hope she hits her stride. Im curious to see where the author takes this series.

I read the ebook first, set it aside and forgot it. When I discovered the audio i thought i might give it a try. Overall, I like Mr.Pauley's reading. He brings emotion and character to the story. I found myself more engaged in the story, no disrespect to author Patricia Logan. Sometimes we are looking for something when we read a book and fail to really enjoy it. At any rated, i have purchaed the boxed sets because i feel more invested in these characters. So, the Logan/Pauley collaboration is a success! Some minor detractions on the audio side;
A few mispronounciations made me want to scream.
Semper fi...isnt semper fee!!!! And k bar is pronounced kay bar, etc. In each later books there is a sprinkling errors like these that took me out of the story. i agree with being confused with exactly how some of the names were spelled so i had to go look them up in the ebook. Perhaps, im just the nitpicker here.
Despite the occasional complaint I've spent MANY hours enjoying his audio performances and I look for Mr.Pauley as a preferred audio performer.

Toby never meant to be a highway robber, but needs must. He didn’t plan to impersonate a top London valet either, but when the chance comes to present himself as the earl of Arvon’s new gentleman's gentleman, he grabs it. Unfortunately, the earl is the man he seduced and robbed on the road to get here. Oops.

I always felt I wasn’t wired like my peers, but when my brother, Kellan, gave me three terms - ace, aromantic, and demi - I had possible names for it. Those three words have been on my mind ever since, as has my brother’s best friend, Josh Westbrook. It’s been cool getting to know him and spending time together, just us. He makes me feel something I never thought I’d be able to feel. When we end up alone in a cabin with only one bed, all my crossed wires finally connect and point toward being demi and wanting him.

This was my tbr list for a long, long time. Im so glad i read/listened to it! The last in the series it wraps up events and does a good job of treating Griff &Josh's relationship. I liked the way the whole question of labeling sexual preferences was discussed.
Kale Williams does a WONDERFUL job with voices, mood, etc. He gets Riley Hart!

The last place Ivie expects to be approached by a devastatingly handsome male is in a crowded, smoky cigar bar rarely frequented by vampires - yet here he stands. Silas is flirtatious, gallant, and, above all, mysterious. Ivie is anything but. A nurse at the healer’s clinic and the daughter of a biker, Ivie is accustomed to speaking her mind. So she does. Since aristocrats rarely pick up females of her class, Ivie asks Silas just what kind of game he thinks he’s playing.

The love story and depth of understanding of emotions is just breathtaking. Its this kind of writing that separates JR Ward from the multitudes of mediocre writers out there. Jim Frangione avoids the difficulty with female voices by not attempting them. He simply continues creatively and expessively bringing them to life. Wow!

I had such a strong reaction to the beginning of this book that it colored the way I felt about the entire story. Its hard to read about such significant abuse. Thank goodness I purchased the audio version which made it easier to get over the rough parts to get the feels for the good (read hot, loving) parts. Kenicott and Ross really bring it in this book! Thank you!💞. It allowed me to further appreciate Cherish's great writing.
My only complaint is the consistent mispronounced word, criminy. The first i is long!
