Story
A young royal from the far north, is sent south for a political marriage in an empire reminiscent of imperial China. Her brothers are dead, her armies and their war mammoths long defeated and caged behind their borders. Alone and sometimes reviled, she must choose her allies carefully. Rabbit, a handmaiden, sold by her parents to the palace for the lack of five baskets of dye, befriends the emperor's lonely new wife and gets more than she bargained for.

While I loved this for the atmosphere and cultural beauty it provided, I think I would’ve grasped the story and intricacies more if I’d read it instead of listened to it

Story
When Lore was thirteen, she escaped a cult in the catacombs beneath the city of Dellaire. And in the ten years since, she’s lived by one rule: don’t let them find you. Easier said than done, when her death magic ties her to the city. Mortem, the magic born from death, is a high-priced and illicit commodity in Dellaire, and Lore’s job running poisons keeps her in food, shelter, and relative security. But when a run goes wrong and Lore’s power is revealed, she’s taken by the Presque Mort, a group of warrior-monks sanctioned to use Mortem working for the Sainted King.

I am obsessed with this book. Not only did the voice actors knock it out of the park, but the storyline and writing are equally deserving of all the awards! I LOVED our fmc’s unique magic and the fact that we get to witness it very quickly.

Story
Mael Nguyen doesn’t believe in fate, but he does believe in magic. His entire life revolves around the study of the arcane—spells and rituals, potions and illusions. As far as Mael is concerned, all he needs is a book in one hand and magic in the other. Anything outside of his bookshop, hidden away in the streets of New Orleans, isn’t worth his attention. But when a strange human stumbles into his life and hires him for a job, bringing along his blinding smile and curious magic, Mael finds that Fate is just as dangerous as Magic.

The narrators for this were absolute perfection, and the story was equally adored. I loved seeing the emotional depth and evolution of our mmc, and the flighty contrast of the love interest. The story was attention-holding and I loved that the magic system was so ingrained in modern society while still being hidden. 10/10 can’t wait for this author’s future work!

Story
What's a superhero to do when his own family sees his powers as unimpressive and he's fifth in line for the throne? Set my sights on getting space married to a hot alien, of course! For science. Ziggy Andromeda is a skinsuit-stealing mercenary who's so far out of my league, he might as well be in another galaxy, but there's nothing I love more than a challenge. And his spaceship has only one bed! Unfortunately, a home planet conspiracy is threatening our besties-with-benefits situationship, along with my dream of putting a Saturn-sized ring on it and locking Ziggy down for good. Rude.

Ziggy has all my love, and while I thoroughly enjoyed the abundance of hot pepper moments, I also cherished his emotional troubles and growth. I can’t wait for book 2!

Longing: unmatched!

The way this book gave such a stunning performance of curiosity and longing, ugh it had my heart in a vice the entire time. Things picked up pace pretty quickly and from that point on, I was on the edge of my seat the rest of the way. I loved the writing, the characters, the story, all of it!
