Awesome, amazing, buy it and read it NOW!
Reviewed: 12-11-24
I was hesitant about buying this book because I didn't enjoy Shadow and bone trilogy that much. I read it but I found it bland with mostly unlikable plain characters. How could the same author write THIS?! I will never understand. This book has the most interesting and deep characters I've encountered in a while. Almost Brandon Sanderson's levels of trauma and character building. The story had unexpected twists and turns and leaves you on the edge of your seat. Purely marvelous.

Story
England, 1920. Eleanor Swift has spent the last few years travelling the world: taking tea in China, tasting alligators in Peru, escaping bandits in Persia and she has just arrived in England after a chaotic 45-day flight from South Africa. Chipstone is about the sleepiest town you could have the misfortune to meet. But then, from the edge of a quarry, through the driving rain, Eleanor is shocked to see a man shot and killed in the distance. Before she can climb down to the spot, the villain is gone and the body has vanished.

Easy listen, a bit annoying main character
Reviewed: 11-15-24
Overall a nice story. The main character is a bit annoying and naive. I find it unbelievable that she could travel the world all by herself with such naivety. Also a bit too much repetition of the suspects and events of the murder. But still, I enjoyed the atmosphere and in the future I might try the next book in the series.

I stumbled upon Elisabeth Wheatley's funny videos and it made me buy the book. I was not disappointed at all :) It is a bit simple story, borderline YA, but I enjoyed it very much and I will definitely buy the next books in the series. I like the characters, the story is interesting enough and maybe some surprises are waiting in the next books :)

In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

Absolute disappointment
Reviewed: 10-22-24
What the hell was that? I am a big fan of Neil's work and I enjoyed Sandman Act 1. That's why I feel so betrayed by the second act. Don't get me wrong, the production was again amazing and made me feel like I was ty here. But the half-assed stories with "mysterious" endings just feel so anticlimactic. The first story was the worst. Basically a catwalk showcasing various gods without any storyline or conflict or plot twist. Ends literally with Deus Ex Machina... The story of Barbie I did enjoy, but again, the ending just kinda fizzled out. Oh well.
And btw, Neil, only Tolkien could make a story consisting mostly of description of a palace and a city work.

Welcome to Ringworld, an intermediate step between Dyson Spheres and planets. The gravitational force created by a rotation on its axis of 770 miles per second means no need for a roof. Walls 1,000 miles high at each rim will let in the sun and prevent much air from escaping. Larry Niven's novel, Ringworld, is the winner of the 1970 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 1970 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 1972 Ditmars, an Australian award for Best International Science Fiction.

Story
For Commander Vimes, Head of Ankh-Morpork City Watch, life consists of troubling times, linked together by...well, more troubling times. Right now, it's the latter. There's a werewolf with pre-lunar tension in the city and a dwarf with attitude and a golem who's begun to think for itself, but that's just ordinary trouble. The real problem is more puzzling - people are being murdered, but there's no trace of anything alive having been at the crime scene.

Maybe it's a bit unfair, but this review is about the last three books of the series. The first three books were very unique, fast paced, full of story and even plot twists - I love that. The last three seem to me like an introduction to a story that happens after. It's almost unfair to the readers - there is so much world building and character building and then it all ends. The characters you end up knowing so much and rooting for just don't really do anything. Throughout the three books I kept waiting for something big and unexpected and climactic. And after I finished the books I keep waiting...

Seemingly naive start - leaves you hooked

The beginning of the story feels rather naive and non-complex, as though a young adult story. But it quickly starts to show you twists and turns and you can't stop listening. The old English atmosphere is a major bonus for me. I can't wait to listen to the second book :)
