About this listen

A door opens. An army of dragons advance. And the fate of the living rests with the dead.

After obtaining the secret to creating dragons, the leader of the Fhrey has turned the tide of war once more - but gaining the advantage has come at a terrible price. While Imaly plots to overthrow the fane for transgressions against his people, a mystic and a keeper are the only hope for the Rhunes. Time is short, and the future of both races hangs in the balance. In this exciting conclusion to the Legends of the First Empire series, the Great War finally comes to a climactic end, and with it dawns a new era in the Age of Empyre.

From the New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan comes the concluding installment of his six-book epic fantasy. This series chronicles a pivotal point in Elan's history when humans and those they once saw as gods warred until a new world order was born. Set 3,000 years before the Riyria tales, Legends is a stand-alone fantasy series that is independent of the Riyria novels. But for those who do listen to both series, Legends will unmask lies and reveal the truth about Elan's history and the men and women who shaped what the world became.

Tim Gerard Reynolds again at his best! Capturing my imagination from the beginning with his narration from the Riyria Chronicles. Micheal J. Sullivan is by far my favorite author! I can't wait to see his next series whether its set in the Empire/Riyria or not. You'll have my money Audible!

Sullivan has made the world a better place. I am grateful for his sharing his imagination with me and my daughter.

This final book of the Legends of the First Empire has me laughing, crying, fuming, and nodding my head in agreement. Throughout this book, the series, and the connected Riyrian novels, Sullivan has expertly delved into politics, diversity, equity, religion, and international affairs to name just a few. There is romance and death, magical beasts and sorcery, inner conflict and relationship building. I do not want to leave the community he has created; it is much preferred to the reality out there right now.

It is so important to me that people read this book that I am writing my first review ever - after 11 years of listening and over 500 titles in my library. And I do not typically listen to books twice, either. In finishing this book, I will be re-starting the Riyria Revelations.

And Tim Gerard Reynolds is one of two favorite narrators (and I've listened to over 500 books, so I know narrators!). He shifts easily from character to character, each with their own complex emotional tones. Reynolds has joined me on more walks than he could manage! No-one else could take Sullivan's mind and relay it to mine so seamlessly.

An Epic in Its Truest Form

This was just an amazing ending to a brilliant story. I'm always worried about the final books in a series but I honestly dont think this could have been better, 10 out of 10, five stars. Just amazing.

Amazing

When genius writers blend their skills with lively talented narrators, the listener is transported to unbelievable realms with fantastic characters. I love this epic fantasy and hope it becomes a tv series.

A perfect end to a great epic.

I just absolutely loved this series. So much adventure, excitement and love. This book was a great end to the series. It is exactly what I long for in a book. I highly recommend this series to everyone that enjoys sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure.

Love love love this series

It hurts me not to give a full five stars for this story, but given that the ending is known from Riyria, and the telling of the final battle through mawndule’s slow witted mind, I find the end to be lackluster. Really, as soon as Brin escapes the abyss I was lost. It seemed too much of why I expected. Amazing series overall and I especially loved the trip through pyre.

Maybe I like cliffhangers...? *spoilers*

Though my favorite is still the Ryria series, this was very good and entertaining to listen to during our pandemic. Tim Gerald Reynolds is in my opinion the best narrator with so many characters you would think there were at least 2-3 different narrators!
Kudos to the Sullivan’s for another great series!

Excellent Series!
