Story
My husband is dead. I attended his funeral. I watched his casket be lowered six feet into the ground. (Actually, it may have been only five feet, but that still seems like more than enough.) And then we ate an array of finger sandwiches and deviled eggs and miniature beef wellingtons that cost more than my first car. My point is, Grant is gone. And so are all his many, many deep, dark secrets which I never really ever bothered to ask him about. He is never coming back.

Story
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Disappointing
Reviewed: 08-12-24
I was excited to read this book because of all the great reviews and it's my favorite genre. Unfortunately I found it to be tedious and at times boring. I do agree with some reviews that we did not get a good ending, it felt unfinished.
The performance was excellent.

Fun quick summer listen
Reviewed: 07-05-24
I really enjoy this author's style of writing with each chapter told in the first person. This book is a fun, twisty summer listen. I finished it in a day and found every word interesting. As usual it's twisty, sometimes predictable and often unrealistic. But I am not interested in a book being realistic, I want to be entertained and I was. The performance was excellent.

Tedious and far too long
Reviewed: 02-14-24
I really thought I would like this book based on the reviews. It seemed right up my alley, but I was wrong. The story could have been interesting but this author spent way too much time with the flowery metaphors That were unnecessary and added nothing to the story. I found this book to be tedious and many times wanted to stop listening. But I always finish a book once I start so I basically wasted 12 hours. I feel that if it had been cut down to maybe 5 or 7 hours it would have been good. But I would say don't waste your time. It was a disappointment. The best part is when it was over.

I've really enjoyed this author but this book just came off childish to me. We've all experienced bullies in school but this was not put together well at all. Of course there were twists, some of which i suspected but i did not enjoy the ending. There were no good guys. Everyone was a bad guy.

Story
My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

This is the first book i have read by this author and i will definitely add her to authors i follow. This book had everything i look for in a book, intrigue, mystery, thrills, excellent character development. I found myself angry, frustrated, sad. I went through a whirlwind of emotions. The quote that best sums up this book js "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive". Prepare to vet tangled up in the web. I highly recommend this book. I also really enjoyed the performance.
