Story
Imogen Waterstone has always prided herself on being a thoroughly independent young woman, but now she needs a man of implacable will and nerves of iron. That's why she invited Matthias Marshall, infamous Earl of Colchester, to her home in Upper Strickland. Who better than the legendary explorer to help her lay the perfect trap? Her scheme is simple, really: She plans to let it be known that when she inherited her uncle's collection of antiquities, she also inherited a map to a fabulous ancient treasure.

The Real Mystery Here Is ….
Reviewed: 01-22-25
How in the world did Harriet Walter agree to narrate this book? She either came out in the losing side of an extravagant bet or made a tactical error playing Truth or Dare. This book is derivative, adolescent and filled with trite cliches. I finished it only to marvel how awful it was on every level.
I had always maintained I would listen to Harriet Walter read knitting instructions or Portuguese train schedules and be entertained. Having said that, sadly, this book failed to even meet those standards.

No I cannot wait for the next one. If anyone I know or love could fail to see the utter charm, humor and humanity of these clever books, I’d have to place a call to Connie’s laundromat and have them removed from my acquaintance.

I never rate or review because everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I can’t think why they would need or want mine. This book is so special and unique. Juliet Stevenson is a superb narrator and her performance is perfect. This story will stay with me and live happily in my heart forever. Smart, so incredibly smart and funny! It’s good to be reminded there are so many kinds of love in this world. How many books become even better with every chapter right up to the last page. ❤️

Story
True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace.

It looks like I’m the only one here, but I found this book tedious, melodramatic, unsophisticated and a slog to read. The narration was painfully amateurish not helped by the cliche ridden writing. I was excited to read the great reviews but this was a poor read for me.

Go up. Go down. Go right left. Go left. It’s this It’s that. Shake it up. Lay it down. Should be good right? Dunno. I felt manipulated by an author who wants to show how many tricks he can jam into one book. Ta dah! The big reveal. Not that. This. It became tedious. A great idea by someone who really wants to impress you with how many plot devices he can cram into one space. But I give him credit - I kept listening. Emilia Fox narration was excellent but I suspect this is a much better read than listen.

Story
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.
