It was an okay story, but it’s like they loved the sex between each other and not the actual person!
It got to be too much after a while!

Sex,sex, sex -it may sound good but after a while it was boring!

Even though it brought them together, I did not like all the sex Leo and Bridget had! Especially while Bridget mistrusted Leo! I could have told her John was using her ( and her brother)! Even though in 2024 there now IS home rule in Ireland and no more violence, our family lived in England BEFORE this came about, and I remember the trains being blown up! I hated the violence on innocent people that the Irish did, but they did Eventually get Irish rule - which should have been theirs from the beginning!

Terrible Narrator!!
Reviewed: 03-03-24
I could NOT listen to this narrator! She had an awful voice, so I could only listen to the first three chapters! She was just awful! I understand that authors of books have NO say as to who narrates their books, but the publisher should know not to pick Jessica ( I could not understand what she said as her last name). She is awful!! I know that Rosalyn Landor doesn’t have time to narrate everyone’s books, but I wish she could! I completely forget the narrator when she reads, she is so great!

This book made me NOT like Bess Crawford!
Reviewed: 02-27-24
This was an interesting story, but I thought that Bess Crawford’s thinking about things became just too much! No one cares what she thinks! People just want action! I’m not sure if I’ve listened to too many Bess Crawford stories or what , but she just gets in the way! I’m beginning to not like her. And, another thing, she has NEVER shot and killed any one! She always seems to wound them, but any killing is left to others! She’s a dud with bad guys!

At the foot of a tree shattered by shelling and gunfire, stretcher bearers find an exhausted officer shivering with cold and a loss of blood from several wounds. The soldier is brought to battlefield nurse Bess Crawford's aid station, where she stabilizes him and treats his injuries before he is sent to a rear hospital. The odd thing is the officer isn't British - he's French. But in a moment of anger and stress, he shouts at Bess in German.

Jessica was stupid, at least in this instance! When she came home late from a fitting because she was trying to to keep this from her husband (why???) she gets incensed when he tells her “no more”!! She had just married him to protect herself from her cousin! How can Simon protect her when he doesn’t know where she is!!! Stupid!! She should have known when she married him that she would be confined! I’m not saying she should like it, but she should have prepared herself!
Even at the end of the story, SHE GOT herself into trouble by not letting anyone know where she’d gone! It was all her own fault - no matter if Simon tried to take the blame! She was so secretive!
I thought Jessica was smart because she read lips, but really unthinking in so many other ways!!

Dumb story!

For half of the book it was like “The Taming of the Shrew” and Elise did every tortuous thing she could to best Maxim. Then the second half of the book she makes 180 degree turn, and is sweet voices and sweet actioned - it doesNOT make sense, and is completely out of character! I hated her! Then Maxim is always (and I mean ALWAYS) saving her!!! Is it all because of sex? This was a very stupid book that tried to get through by including everything at once! I did not like it at all!
