Story
Geoffrey Lushington, Mayor of Marlow, dies suddenly during a Town Council meeting. When traces of aconite—also known as the queen of poisons—are found in his coffee cup, the police realize he was murdered. But who did it? And why? The police bring Judith, Suzie and Becks in to investigate as Civilian Advisors right from the start, so they have free rein to interview suspects and follow the evidence to their heart’s content, which is perfect because Judith has no time for rules and standard procedure.

Appalling characters
Reviewed: 01-12-25
The idea of four women developing a friendship around amateur police investigation is clever and joined to an interesting plot. The presentation of the characters was done well, though the characters were unpleasant. There was a realistic and thoughtful presentation of interests of particular importance in the lives of women that was welcome, but it would have been better if the characters had been less disagreeable as the main characters were appalling - arrogant and entitled.

Fun, slightly quirky sports romance
Reviewed: 12-02-24
so, not really a sports romance, but sports slant that raised the level above the usual romcom. Great that it had numerous moments s, likable characters and a love story that was not a bodice ripper or angled toward sweat voyeurs.

I like a comedic romantic story. yYou know, one that is not a bodice ripper with descriptions of pulsating anatomical parts nor one so buried in syrup it is difficult not gagging. This is pretty much the latter. So why a 5 star score? Because it is written for an audience that will like it (my bad for buying it) and the writer put significant work into it - well plotted, reasonable (if sappy) dialogue and no giant editorial glitches. So good for those of you that love syrup.

Disconcerting
Reviewed: 01-27-23
Whoever decided that casting a women to narrate a gladitorial male must have been very fond of the narrator and had no fondness for their story. The narration was so out of keeping with the character as to be wildly disconcerting. I might try reading the story as I was unable to really decide if the story was, by itself, interesting.
