Story
Raisa never intended to be a diplomat. Like so many things in her life, it was her stepmother's idea. Hector is an elf in disgrace. He chose his cyborg brother over his lying, abusive family. Elves revile augmented people. They leave such despicable technology to their ancient enemies, the goblins. When a diplomatic mission strands the two elves on a goblin world, they find themselves the target of a legendary killer. If they die, so will the emergent species they were sent to save.

Story
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

I used to be a normal high school girl but in the blink of an eye, I woke up in a place I've never seen before and-and I was reborn as a spider?! How could something that's nothing more than a tiny spider (that's me) possibly survive in literally the worst dungeon ever? Are there no rules? There should be some rules! Who the hell is responsible for this? SHOW YOUR FACE!

Story
When a magical plague is released in a Depression-era New York soup kitchen, private detective Alex Lockerby finds himself in a desperate hunt to catch a madman before he can strike again. His investigations lead Alex to a famous thief, a daring heist, and the search for a mythic book of ancient magic, but none of that brings him any closer to finding the man responsible for the massacre. With the police and New York’s Council of Sorcerers desperate to find the culprit, Alex becomes a suspect himself, thanks to his ties to the priest who ran the soup kitchen.

Noir and magic.
Reviewed: 03-09-24
Just finished the first book in the Arcane Casebook series by Dan Willis. I grew up reading Noir detective stories. Raymond Chandler, Nero Wolf, Ellery Queen. So throw in magic and it was great.
But I listened to the Audible and it was read by Vic Mignogna. Who did the voice of Edward Alric in Full Metal Alchemist. Spoiler for FMC, at the end Ed sacrifices his magic to save his brother, Alphonse. Soooooo. As I listened and it sounded like Ed I kept thinking, he lost his powers, moved to another city and learned a new magic system and became a private detective.
Anyway, great series. Definitely buying the next book soon.

Story
On a planet where life is cheap, in a city built on corruption, very few things are considered holy. The Landing Site is one of them. The remains of the century-old habitat pod—which delivered the colonists to the only barely habitable place on the cruel world of Croatoan—has become a monument to the hardscrabble people who somehow survived the unsurvivable. So when blood is shed on that sacred ground, it’s seen as an attack against the entire colony.
