Story
LA-based English indie filmmaker Alex Levitin reluctantly takes a job in New Zealand to save the "worst movie ever", Shezan: Mistress of the Forest. Things might go easier for her if she didn't almost run over the standoffish, beautiful local cop on her first day in town. And it'd really help if her film set wasn't being mysteriously sabotaged. When Ika Whenu's Senior Constable Sam Keegan isn't trying to stamp out a motorcycle gang drug problem afflicting her town, she's publicly slamming everything about the exploitative film and the Hollywood blow-ins making it.

Story
Life has become a farcical mess for icy British A-lister Elizabeth Thornton. America's most-hated villain stars in a top-rated TV medical drama that she hates. Now, she's been romantically linked to her perky, new co-star, Summer, due to the young woman's clumsiness. As a closeted actress, that's the last thing Elizabeth needs. If she could just get her dream movie role, life would be so much better. The only problem is that the eccentric French film-maker offering it insists on meeting her "girlfriend", Summer, first.

Wonderfully done. Jen and Abby had me listening into the night once again. This one hurts. It wouldn't hurt if there wasn't so much to love about it. I'm going to have to catch my breath before listening again.
edit; I was finally able to listen to this again. Listening to it right after the Senators Wife series allowed me to see the characters in that book with a new light. I could see how Alex's story could have ended more like Dillon's. I really hope that Hunt introduces Kam to Amelia. The friendship could be good for both of them.

Reading wasn't good. Everyone sounded the same and it was hard to keep track of the speaker. Story dragged. I listed for 3 hours and realized nothing had really happened. I usually like this author. I've listened to more than 500 audiobooks and this is just the third I didn't finish.

I enjoyed this book a lot but could tell it was older based on the lack of mobile phones and texting and social media. I thought putting this out there would let someone listen without wondering if they missed the setting.

Not sure why I finished this one
Reviewed: 03-18-24
If I had been reading a physical book, I would have put this one down. Because I was listening to it, I let it play in the background of life. I didn't connect with any of the characters. The storyline wasn't compelling. I selected this book because I like others with this author-narrator combo. Making the book more disappointing was that I spent money instead of credits for this book and therefore can't return it.

I wasn't sure I would be able to stick with this book, but I'm glad I did.
I thought I was getting a steamy office romance where one character spends half the book redeeming himself. Totally not that. Solid read and a portrayal of a guy couple readers can relate to.
