Story
Against all odds, Grimshaw Griswald Grimsby has become an Auditor, enforcing laws about magic for Boston’s Department of Unorthodox Affairs. But Grimsby soon realizes the daily grind of his job is far removed from the glamour he imagined. Overlooked for every exciting case, Grimsby tires of being told to handle mundane magical troubles, and appropriates a case file intended for a friend. Alongside Leslie Mayflower, the temporarily unretired Huntsman, Grimsby aims to crack the case and discover the origin of a strange, unfinished ritual.

any time you finish a book and are sad and want more I think you have a good book. certainly I see similarities between him and his father but honestly I don’t find that a bad thing. can’t wait for the next one(s)

Story
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

First of all really enjoyed the story. It was nice to have a story that got to be a little less intense and end of the world and had the classic Dresden feel of being on a case while still interacting with some of the best and most intense characters in the series.
What was a big surprise was how well Butcher did the reading. I love James Marsters. He is Dresden to me. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able enjoy the reading as much but I was pleasantly surprised. After a short time in I got lost in his voice inflections and his take on the characters and it just worked. He was Dresden.

Story
On a world called Heaven, the 10 major religions of mankind each have its own land governed by a capital city and ruled by a Hegemon. That Hegemon may be a god, or a prophet of a god. Smaller religions have their own towns or villages of belief. Corvyn, known as the Shadow of the Raven, contains the collective memory of humanity’s Falls from Grace. With this knowledge comes enormous power. When unknown power burns a mysterious black image into the holy place of each House of the Decalivre, Corvyn must discover what entity could possibly have that much power.

Worst Modesitt book I have ever read
Reviewed: 08-06-20
I really enjoy a lot of Modesitt books. There are times when some of his books drag a little for whatever reason and you can push through it because you are attached to the characters or invested in the story line enough to want to see where things are going. This was not one of those books. It's like you took all of the slow, uninteresting bits from the Recluce and Imager series and made a novel out of them. There is barely any plot. It reads more like a travel journal on someone's vacation. Plenty of description of inns and hotels along with lots descriptions of all the meals being eaten. I got through almost 8hrs out of the 10 and just decided to give up. The entire 8hrs I listened too felt like it could have been summarized in one chapter.

I love it when you find a an audio book where it is just so gripping and consuming you find yourself parked in your car because you just can't break away. This is absolutely such a book.
I really enjoy just about everything from Sanderson and while I've enjoyed so many of his incredibly well conceived Fantasy stories I think he is even better at Sci Fi.
The story, characters and narrator Suzy Jackson are all wonderful.
Don't hesitate! Just get it. You will enjoy the ride.

Story
Something unholy is hunting the streets of Burlington, Vermont, stalking the campus of the local university. Chris Gordon and his contingent of demon hunters is drawn to the northern Vermont city by a brutal murder of hellish proportions, ready to banish it from Earth. But this Hellion is direct from the Abyss, incarnate and fully possessed of all the powers of high Hell royalty - female royalty at that. It’s been said that the female of the species is deadlier than the male, and this one might be the deadliest of all.

Where is the story?
Reviewed: 04-22-19
It feels like much of the book could have been edited down to a few chapters before moving on to the real story (which I'm now assuming is the next book)
I've really enjoyed these books and these characters but it feels like they have all plateaued and become a little one dimensional. Everyone has just become insanely powerful and so much of their dialog is boiled down to antagonistic, snarky behavior. It seems like almost any interaction with an authority figure is instantly met with "Don't upset me or I will END you!!". This kind of interaction was a lot more entertaining when going up against the government or the military but much less so against small town officials just trying to do their job. For the first time I actually started feeling sorry for the authority figures and thought maybe the military and government officials early on in the series were right and Chris and company need to be kept in check. Definitely not how I want to feel about my beloved heroes/heroines. They were the underdogs now they kind of feel like the bullies.
