About this listen

Something unholy is hunting the streets of Burlington, Vermont, stalking the campus of the local university. Chris Gordon and his contingent of demon hunters is drawn to the northern Vermont city by a brutal murder of hellish proportions, ready to banish it from Earth.

But this Hellion is direct from the Abyss, incarnate and fully possessed of all the powers of high Hell royalty - female royalty at that. It’s been said that the female of the species is deadlier than the male, and this one might be the deadliest of all.

How do you flush out such dangerous prey without recreating the chaos that befell Washington such a short time ago? The answer: bait. The bait: Declan O’Carroll, witch prodigy with powers so sweet it’s like candy for the Devil’s own. Can Chris and company catch this monster before any harm comes to their friend and colleague? Or will Hell have its way? Can they see all the angles or does this Abyss bitch have the edge?

I’m not positive but I believe this was the first in this series written in 3rd person perspective. It seemed to break to usual flow of the books and especially the narration. Not hearing the narration with the voice of Declan or Chris was off putting for a bit until I got used to the change in style. The series goes back to first person in the following books and the flow of narration is back to what I’m used to in this series. This book is a departure and lacks because of it. Still it’s much better than many books. Just not the best in this series.

A new style of writing yet still good.

The story grows. The characters should change and develop, but at times it seems that they suffer the fate of some series of books in that the main characters have hit a growth ceiling. The witch, Declan, doesn’t seem to really change with all of the experiences he has gone through. Of course, this is just the author. As I have noticed the same interactions and speech patterns displayed in other youth characters in his other books. Over all though the series remains of interest though there seems to be many paths developing at once.

The depth, detail and continual character development keeps this urban fantasy series one of my favorite. I continually look forward to the next book in the series.

Amazing Series

I am a huge fan of this series and have grown to appreciate James Patrick Cronin narration skills. John Conroe seems to add a little bit of everything and whatever he adds in, just seems to work. This is one of my very favorite series.

I loved it, I love the series.

This book had some interesting new elements. I enjoyed having the story told from Omega’s perspective and the epilogue was a nice touch. The demon and school elements of the plot kept my attention well.

Still going strong
