Story
Because of our highly processed diet, pesticides, and overuse of antibiotics, our guts are now missing so many of the good bacteria that we require to be healthy. As a result, many of us have lost control over our health, weight, mood, and even behavior. With cutting-edge research, Dr. Davis connects the dots between gut health and modern ailments such as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), a silent and profound epidemic, which affects one out of three people and is responsible for an astounding range of human health conditions.

A haunting story that will stay with you long after you close the pages. Wingate’s writing is superb, keeping your senses on edge and delighted. I fell in love with the characters, and with the story. I had to put it down a few times because it was a hard story to swallow, even more so when understanding that it’s based on true facts. In the end, I was relieved that the characters were 100% fictional. I kept hoping that Camellia would return, but the authors choice to have her not return, drove home the reality of the story. I would read more of this author any day.

Story
The New York Times best-selling true story of an all-American girl and a boy from Zimbabwe and the letter that changed both of their lives forever. It started as an assignment. Everyone in Caitlin's class wrote to an unknown student somewhere in a distant place. Martin was lucky to even receive a pen-pal letter. There were only 10 letters, and 50 kids in his class. But he was the top student, so he got the first one. That letter was the beginning of a correspondence that spanned six years and changed two lives.

We know that gut health is important. What and how you eat affects your energy levels, your brain function, how you feel, your work performance, your skin, your weight, how well you age and your long-term health. There isn’t much else in life under your control that has that kind of awesome power and all of these effects start with what happens in the gut. At the same time, never before have we been so confused over what we should eat!

I loved hearing about how the gut works and why veggies are so good for your gut and hence you. I loved understanding the whys behind why junk food is harmful to your gut. Overall, she did a good job of encouraging me to eat better and understanding the why's behind it. I will think twice before making a choice about my diet.

predictable and no t my cup of tea
Reviewed: 03-18-19
it's not a book that I could finish. I found the story to be cliched and predictable. I found it intriguing that the story was written from the viewpoint of the dog, but did not like the way the author did it. Enzo's tone had a know-it-all arrogant attitude that while fitting for the author's purpose, did not jive with the dogs place in his owner's life. It all seems so contrived. also I didn't like all of the advice that was riddled throughout the book. they were blatantly stated. I feel that in a good book of literature these bits of advice should be discovered and furrowed out as you read. I didn't like that they were thrown at my face

the Christmas Pearl was a magical read. it was trite. it was iconic. but I loved every minute of it. The dramatic reading of it brought it to life. I would love to see this as a Hallmark movie or even a stage play. I loved the ghost. I loved the magic. I loved the reminiscence of it all. if I could sum it up I would say that it reminds me of the need to create magic in our lives at Christmas and always.
