Story
It’s been ten years since Priscilla and her Zeta Phi Zeta sorority sisters graduated college. Ten years since they were all in the same room together. Ten years since one of them died. And now Lupé’s killer has been released from prison on a technicality, days before their ten-year reunion. Priscilla decides that the party must go on; Lupé would have wanted it to. And besides, an epic reunion bash might be the perfect distraction. Back together, the Zetas party like it’s 2012, and it’s wild, just the way it used to be. Maybe too wild.

The writing was interesting. Like the author couldn’t decide what writing “devices” to utilize. At times clichés with trite sayings were inserted. Reading of the court transcripts and characters’ inner thoughts and memories provided needed background. NONE of the characters were likable. They were mostly pretentious and had intense opinions about each other. Perhaps reading the print version of the story would be less confusing related to who was speaking. Towards the end the story got better was easier to listen to and understand. No spoilers here but the ending was surprisingly disturbing disgusting and sad.

Story
It's the week before Christmas, and antiques dealer Weezie Foley is in a frenzy to deck out her shop for the Savannah historical district decorating contest, which she intends to win. Weezie is ready to shoot herself with her glue gun by the time she's done, but the results are stunning. She's certainly one-upped the owners of the trendy shop around the corner, but suddenly things start to go missing from her display and there seems to be an uninvited midnight visitor to her shop.

Liked the continuation of the story of the characters from Savannah Blue to this one. As one who enjoys estate sales myself I am really interested in Weezie’s antique business, her eye for value, attraction for vintage clothing, jewelry, etc. Kind of makes me want to travel to Georgia just to do some “personal picking”. I would love to go shopping with her and her friends. Love the series and so happy that I am listening to the stories during the Christmas holiday season.

Narration was pretty good. There are a few surprising moments in the plot. IMO this story was about three hours too. The initial focus was lost and what followed could have been a second novel.

The pace of the story was good most of the time. Hearing the different viewpoints of characters’ perceptions of the same events added depth to the story. Important background or backstories were also provided. There was not one likable character. Each one was petty and as insecure as their boss. There is a lot of back-stabbing, lying, adulterous competitive cheating behavior. The ending wasn’t really what I expected.

The conflict between Elouise and Penny was central to the story. The missing child was just a tool for an added dimension to their fractured relationship as in-laws. In addition, the pressures of being perfect damaged Penny’s relationship with several people including her teenaged daughter Rosie. What stood out was the lack of relationship among Rosie and other teens on the island. None of the characters were particularly likable…including Cocoa. Decent narration.

I love Rick Mofina’s stories, however this story seemed drawn out and complex. In addition the narrator voice was so soothing that I often fell asleep during the story. It was difficult to endure and enjoy the story. I may try it again in a couple of months and increase the speed of the narration 😉

Amber Patterson Parrish has come a long way from being an invisible wallflower. Her hard work and immaculate planning have paid off now that she’s a prominent socialite, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been bumps along the way. Less than a year since her husband Jackson’s tax-evasion scandal, Amber is still at the top of the Bishops Harbor community pecking order, free to do as she wishes while Jackson sits in prison. But that freedom is quickly coming to an end. With Jackson getting released from prison, Amber’s time—and money—is vanishing.

The first time that I read a book in reverse meaning that I listened to the final chapters in this novel after the behavior of Talulah. I had to see how this story ended,Alliteration of first letter in characters’ names in these stories drives me crazy. Talulah is a teenaged brat. For her mother to accept her behavior and betrayal as representative of teenagers is an insult.
Great narration.

Terrible narrator and repetition within story
Reviewed: 10-02-24
Part of the series that I want to complete. Unfortunately the formula for each has gone stale. Strong willed women who meet and resist romance with one of the gorgeous looking, wealthy and stubborn Randolph men. The back story is almost identical as are the endings. Binge listening is not the same as binge watching.
A narrator who doesn’t sound like cartoon characters from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s would be extremely beneficial. Perhaps if the stories are re-released for a second time a different narrator will be considered.
