Story
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

NOT THE "ROMANCE" NOVEL YOU'RE EXPECTING
Reviewed: 04-28-20
YESSS! I actually got this book from Audible Escape which usually has cheesy feel good romance stories. I honestly did not look at the genre of the book and was expecting just that. This book totally caught me off guard. I love how there inso true hero in the book... all the characters mean well but their actions lead to an ending that I didn't see coming.
Just when you're thinking "man, this is fcked up" the ending blows your mind even more. The ending was a little bit stretched out, but ehh, it still kept me intrigued. This is the first psychological thrillerI picked up and it has me wanting more.

Story
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

NOT THE ROMCOM YOU'RE EXPECTING
Reviewed: 04-27-20
I was expecting more of a rom comand more details of how Stella perceives the world (from the Autistic point of view) but it gave more of the "oh hey.. I'm shy and pretty, every guy wants a shy pretty girl" cringe vibe. There were a lot of sex scenes that I wasn't expecting. So why wasn't this listed as erotic? (I've never read/listened to a book under the erotic category but I'm imagining this is what it's like with the descriptive kind of cringe sex scenes).
Overall, the story was just a bit cute. No character development or interesting plot. I knew it was going to be a predictable happy fiction ending from the start, but in all honesty, that's why I decided to finish it. For those feel good "Disney" feelings.

RAW & BRILLIANT
Reviewed: 03-14-19
I love that David Goggins chose to let his co-author read the book. His author reads it and David Goggins provides insight after each chapter like a podcast interview which I thought was genius. I like how he is REAL throughout the book and. He is able to identify his own flaws and point them out as he goes. It is a good mix of refreshing Self-Help by making the reader pause and think about their own life goals and motivations and his own autobiography. Being a military member myself and coming from a rough childhood, I was able to identify with many aspects in the book.
He is very transparent with many aspects of his life but there are parts he does keep private. For example, he said that he had a child and then never mentioned the child again. He also never described the reasons for his failed marriages or what led up to the divorces. But these unanswered questions still don’t change the message of the book.
The key thing I learned (or was reminded of) was: It’s not too late. Put in the work in order to achieve those goals.

YES! YES! YES!
Reviewed: 03-14-19
Full disclosure: I’ve never watched any of the Scandal, or Murder She Wrote episodes. I tried watching an episode or two of Grey’s Anatomy but I just could not get into it. That does not discredit the fact that she is a successful television writer. Her voice was soothing to listen to, especially during traffic hour on the way to work. To start off, this isn’t a self-help book that people look forward to. “If you do exactly this, then you’ll get these type of results.” It isn’t an autobiography where it takes us through her entire journey. It is in the title, a YEAR of YES. Just a year. She realizes that she is successful in her job but not successful in many other aspects which she wants to improve upon: health and fitness, relationships, social life, and self-love. She describes herself as an introverted writer who is not very social with others who just loves to work and takes a year to branch out and do things that are uncomfortable for her in order for her to grow, which she does.
In the Audible version she shares 3 recordings of speeches that she has given in that YEAR of YES. (During this time I wasn’t driving but actually parked my car to really enjoy those moving speeches.)
There is a section in the book where she lost me. She started talking about why she’s not married. I understand a working woman and loving yourself, your peace, and your work but she described it as saying “yes” to “no marriage”. If you’re now doing things that you’re scared about, why not give it a try? She ends up being very happy about this decision, which makes me happy for her. More power to her, but that chapter didn’t fit very well with the overall theme of the book.

Story
An incredible but true account of achieving one of the most awe-inspiring midlife physical transformations ever. In October 2006, the night before he was to turn 40, Rich experienced a chilling glimpse of his future. Nearly 50 pounds overweight and unable to climb the stairs without stopping, he saw where his sedentary lifestyle was taking him. Most of us look the other way when granted such a moment of clarity, but not Rich.

VERY MONOTONE :(
Reviewed: 03-14-19
I cannot rate the content of the actual story or book because I could not get through the first 10 minutes of this Audible! I listened to the beginning which should have been a great attention grabber but the actual reader was very bland! It was so bad. I believe where the author of this book failed is to hire someone to be the voice of the book recording. There is nothing wrong with having someone else who is an expert in reading with expression. I bought this book off of Audible because it was recommended to me after I listened to David Goggins' Can't Hurt Me. I really feel like I wasted my money on this one. I think reading the book on my own would have been a better choice.
