Story
Dave Pelzer was brutally abused as a child by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother. She considered him a slave - no longer a boy, but an "it". He was physically and mentally tortured and starved. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare he experienced behind closed doors, and his father was aware of the abuse but turned to denial and alcohol. The abuse only fueled a determination to survive and become stronger.

heart wrenching

This is a real eye opener, Most people can't comprehend how badly a child can be mistreated by parents, who are by nature, ment to be protective and nurturing. I have known child abuse and neglect, but nothing as horrific as what this child endured. The damage that effects the rest of a childs life and that of all those they love is unlimited. Thank the Lord that he is always here to heal and bring us into his loving family.

If this story is not true, than the author is sick. To come up with the child cruelty and describe it in such detail is hideous. There is where any person with a heart couldn't possibly keep listening.

I couldn't quit listening. This story came from a different direction of any other I have read about world war II. I was very intrigued by her bravery and how even though she feel in love, she stayed true to the end. The writer conveys a warm compassionate look at her part in the victory over Hitler. Read flawlessly, expressing feelings emotion, and tone of the story perfectly. I look forward to the next title by this author.

Story
The Civil War tore at the very roots of our nation and destroyed most of a generation. In rural Arkansas, the Hancocks were devastated by that war. They not only lost everything, but experienced an unimaginable hell. How does a traumatized human being put themselves back together? Where does a person begin to heal his or her broken mind…and does one choose damnation or redemption? For the Hancock siblings: Doc, Sarah, Butler, and Billy, the American frontier becomes a metaphor for the wilderness within—raw, and capable of being shaped.

The story had so many holes in it. The narrator was no very talented in voices, Marco sounded like a beachbumb, Jake sounded like a high school nerd, and how did he go from photographer to investigator? Likes the characters, but I think they could have been represented better. Also the story was very predictable and too mushy.
