Story
In this timely book, Steven Phillips, MD, and his former patient, Sony singer-songwriter Dana Parish, reveal striking evidence that a broad range of common infections, from COVID-19 to Lyme and many others, cause a variety of autoimmune, psychiatric, and chronic conditions. Chronic explores the science behind what makes them difficult to diagnose and treat, debunks widely held beliefs by doctors and patients alike, and provides solutions that empower sufferers to reclaim their lives.

Story
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Loved the performance - obviously a great story. I always loved the book more than the movie because Tolkien had a way of bringing Middle Earth to life, really makes me feel like I’m there.

Story
To many, our most shocking political crises appear unprecedented—un-American, even. But they are not, writes The Atlantic’s Adam Serwer in this prescient essay collection, which dissects the most devastating moments in recent memory to reveal deeply entrenched dynamics, patterns as old as the country itself. The January 6 insurrection, anti-immigrant sentiment, and American authoritarianism all have historic roots that explain their continued power with or without President Donald Trump—a fact borne out by what has happened since his departure from the White House.

This critical analysis of U.S. history, which explains our present through our past and how racial lines have been drawn between black and white throughout history, is a must read for everyone. It helped me understand my own privilege and bias in the face of continued oppression of black people in America. I hope to see more from Adam Serwer in the future. He gives a voice to the voiceless and identifies how we got so divided. I hope we can use this to make changes in this country.

People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

This book displays the macabre, death and evil with hilarity. Moore’s imagination in coming up with these characters and the situations he puts them into come from pure brilliance. He takes normal, every day situations and adds the absurd into them like they are normal. Every child should have two giant hellhounds who take baths with her every night like it is an every day occurrence. Love it and can’t wait for the next book!!

Mary Trump made a hard decision when she chose to write this book and expose so much about her family. I wish she would have known her Uncle better and could have given more information about him. But as she found out when her Uncle wanted her to write his autobiography, it’s hard to get close to him. I feel for her in knowing how her grandfather destroyed her father - and pretty much wrecked the rest of his family. I have studied many of our Presidents and these type of family dimensions are common - and personality traits do not compare to the idiocracy of Trump’s world. It’s an o.k. book - not as mind blowing as the press made it out to be.

Story
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

One of King’s Best
Reviewed: 10-19-19
Stephen King continues to outdo himself. His ability to capture the world through children’s eyes makes this story great for me. Like “Stand By Me,” “It” and others he has written, Stephen King makes me remember what it is like to be a child. I travel through time and in the circumstance, become a child who have been abducted from my parents. He touches on the politics of real life through this story. I loved the read.

Story
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.
