About this listen

In San Francisco, the souls of the dead are mysteriously disappearing - and you know that can't be good - in New York Times best-selling author Christopher Moore's delightfully funny sequel to A Dirty Job.

Something really strange is happening in the City by the Bay. People are dying, but their souls are not being collected. Someone - or something - is stealing them. No one knows where they are going or why, but it has something to do with that big orange bridge.

Death merchant Charlie Asher is just as flummoxed as everyone else. He's trapped in the body of a 14-inch-tall "meat puppet", waiting for his Buddhist nun girlfriend, Audrey, to find him a suitable new body to play host.

To get to the bottom of this abomination, a motley crew of heroes will band together: the seven-foot-tall death merchant Minty Fresh, retired policeman-turned-bookseller Alphonse Rivera, the emperor of San Francisco and his dogs, and Lily, the former Goth girl. Now if only they can get little Sophie to stop babbling about the coming battle for the very soul of humankind.

Wrapped it all up in this book.

The first book left me in a "Whaaaa?" This book wrapped it up well. some of the ghosts stories I just fast forwarded through. overall, love the voices. The voices make this corny book really fantastic!

Laugh out loud every paragraph!

The "author guy" Christopher Moore has done it again. Here is another fresh and funny tale set in the beloved city by the bay. This sequel to A Dirty Job is every bit as hilarious as the original. Some of the characters have appeared in even more of Moore's novels. The reader, Fisher Stevens gives an incredible performance with his range of voices and accents. He should be the only voice for future Moore novels.

Loved it!

I've listened to the first book(A Dirty Job) and bought the sequel right after. The second book is where the writer stops caring about making sense or tidying up the story and just go where the story takes you. It's not easy to expect where the story would take you, and the writer's same sense of humor appear more on this book. Although this book is not at all scary, can be a bit spooky to those who believe in ghosts. WIth so many characters with different age, sex, humaness, the narrator does a great job conveying each person's uniqueness.

Fun

Fun sequel to the first book. These are light hearted quirky. Enjoyable enough that I wanted to listen to the sequel.

A perfect sequel!

This book is a perfect and a must needed sequel to the first. It is just as hilarious, if not more. Performance was spot on; and "Like Bear" on a trout, I finished it in no time! I'm a little sad it's the end of the story and hope to find more of Christopher Moore's books just as enjoyable!

Note: I tensed, mentally, waiting to hear the dreaded transition music when I started to listen to this book but, it was no where to be found! Thank you, to whomever decided it was a bad idea and didn't add it in!

Thanks for this interesting and fully enjoyable tale.

this was an excellent sequel!

this was a perfect extension to the first book! The only complaint I have is not about the writing or the performance... It's about the sound mixing... The normal speaking is too quiet compared to the shrieking that goes on many times throughout the book... so whoever mixed this didn't take the care they needed... If you have your headphones on and you're listening to this that are reasonable volume for the speaking parts... when somebody screams or shrieks or what have you that's super loud... It's it's really freaking loud and startling and disturbing.

It's literally my only complaint 🤣🤣🤣

you have been forewarned.

The story is logical and rational and progresses in a way that is suitable.

The things are explained and there aren't any dangling plot holes that I can remember.

It was thoroughly enjoyable just as enjoyable is the first book.
