I'll be honest, my first read through of this book I was so confused. I had to start it over once I got halfway through.
Once I did that it was an explosion of light and color in my own imagination and such a fantastic and phenomenally built story.
I just wish there was more of the East and Tane.

disjointed isekai
Reviewed: 02-14-25
This is genuinely the most disjointed story I have ever heard. Yes, the writing is good, no, nothing makes any sense. it's as if you're talking to a robot that's talking to its brother but doesn't have any information. not a very good story because nothing leads into the next thing. it's just event one event two event 3. this happens as a result. there's no tension. there's no drama. it's just a man stating facts in a letter. I'm sure it works for some people but I don't enjoy it.
I think I would prefer to read this backwards. It might make just a little bit more sense.
here's an example of what the book sounds like:
"I read the book. it was bad. I still finished it and I still think the writing is mediocre. I moved on to the next book. I lived my life. I moved forward. I did a thing. the thing was unexpected. I moved on. "
that's what this entire book has been like...

Story
Davi has done this all before. She’s tried to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she’s rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end. Sometimes she’s killed quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. But she’s been defeated every time. This time? She’s done being the hero and done being stuck in this endless time loop. If the Dark Lord always wins, then maybe that’s who she needs to be. It’s Davi’s turn to play on the winning side.

Not for me
Reviewed: 01-27-25
I'd like to start by saying, I get it. It's something a little different, and everyone needs that sometimes, but this book was sincerely not for me.
I don't think it's well written and the dialogue between characters isn't all that great. Character development throughout the story is very one dimensional, which leads to a poor quality overall. Each scene and set pieces are very predictable.
The MC has two thoughts. Sex and violence. When I had this thought halfway through I double checked the author and realized that it was a Male writing for a Female identifying MC... Who only cares about sex, violence, and winning the crown... Creating a very one dimensional character in a one dimensional world revolving around one dimensional chaos. Everything is a joke, and not a very funny one. It's like if you gave a 12 year old boy the assignment of "write about fantasy and make it whatever you want." I'm proud of you for finishing what you started, but I don't believe I would ever recommend this book to anyone unless they are desperate for something to make them feel as though they have wasted their precious time on this earth.
All of the modern media references are a shrine built on a nexus between someone's very specific subclass of nerddom and growing up in a certain time period. It's all bad. Then the book makes fun of you for not understanding a reference.
The MC has one tactic. Manipulate everyone everywhere into doing everything she wants. And because she's so smart and done this so many times it never fails. It's a story that shoves Plot Armor in your face so hard that it makes you uncomfortable, then tries to take it away as if it could ever threaten their precious MC. It's laughably bad.
I love the narrator. Excellent performance. I will be listening to more if they're are other books not by this author she's read.

An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror. Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air—and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. Story
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

it was OK
Reviewed: 03-02-23
Let's start with the PROS:
- Storyline was alright. Not much to say there.
- the world building is really well done for what little is there.
- All sorts of fun new magic.
- plenty of character development. Both forward and backwards.
CONS:
- Lemme get this out of the way... The narrator has four voices, and only one of them is pleasant to listen to. Unfortunately that one voice is used for the person with the least lines. The inflection that he uses for most lines just sounds whiney and annoying. Very difficult to get through.
- The characters themselves... The main character Reshi is not enjoyable. Apparently this man is sooo devilishly handsome that he gets away with literally everything without explanation. Mainly flirtatious whining. Everyone wants to flirt with him and much more. It gets old pretty quickly. And the magical siblings are much worse. One dimensional characters that have so much exposition baked into their lines that it's a wonder they made it to the page.
- Things just happen without ANY explanation. We'll be in a battle and suddenly without any showing or telling the battle is ended and Reshi is making out with someone in the bushes. One moment everything is tense and the next they're fucking in an inn. Very few meaningful transitions.
- I wish this was advertised as a Romantic Comedy because it fits that genre much better.
