About this listen
This program is read by the author.
"Read by the author, a talented and animated fantasy narrator who also voiced Legends, the book presents a colorful cast of new and familiar characters that is sure to ensorcell and delight listeners." —Booklist
When an injury throws a young, battle-hungry orc off her chosen path, she may find that what we need isn't always what we seek.
Set in the world of New York Times bestselling Legends & Lattes, Travis Baldree's Bookshops & Bonedust takes us on a journey of high fantasy, first loves, and second-hand books.
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned.
Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it.
What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do?
Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.
Still, adventure isn't all that far away. A suspicious traveler in gray, a gnome with a chip on her shoulder, a summer fling, and an improbable number of skeletons prove Murk to be more eventful than Viv could have ever expected.
“Take a break from epic battles and saving the world. This is a low-stakes fantasy that delivers exactly what's advertised: a wholesome, cozy novel that feels like a warm hug. This is my new comfort read.”—Genevieve Gornichec, author of The Witch's Heart, on Legends & Lattes

Story
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Those deemed of low economic value are placed into a state of cryogenic sleep, their minds connected to a myriad of virtual worlds. They become digital citizens, living out their lives in virtual cities. Kadia Greene wasn’t someone who had any interest in the virtual worlds, unlike her brother who spent his days wasting away in a VR capsule.

In the world’s most magical metropolis where spirits run noodle shops and cash-strapped dragons stage photo-ops for tourists, people still think fairies are nothing but stories, and that’s exactly how the fairies like it. It’s a lot easier to feast on humanity’s dreams when no one believes you exist. But while this arrangement works splendidly for most fair folk, Lola isn’t one of the lucky ones.

Once, there were four worlds, nestled like pages in a book, each pulsing with fantastical power and connected by a single city: London. Until the magic grew too fast and forced the worlds to seal the doors between them in a desperate gamble to protect their own. The few magicians who could still open the doors grew more rare as time passed and now, only three Antari are known in recent memory—Kell Maresh of Red London, Delilah Bard of Grey London, and Holland Vosijk, of White London.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Pete is a simple man who enjoys a good drink amongst good friends. Not too much to ask, right? Now, he's trapped in a fantasy world far from home, stuck underground and inside the body of a smelly dwarf with fantastic facial hair. The worst part? The swill that the dwarves are falling all over themselves to drink. It's flat, it's watery, and it has the alcohol content of a rancid coconut. Can Pete save the dwarves from their own sour fate, or will he be forever doomed to plink his pickaxe away in hopes that he hits the motherlode?

À l'aide d'une légendaire pierre censée lui apporter la bonne fortune, elle se lance dans une entreprise audacieuse : la création d'un café. Exactly what I needed
I'm a huge fan of Travis' narration and stumbled upon the first book in my recommended titles. A stats block about how a coffee shop menu grows as business does? Hilarious and meaningful in a way that both pokes fun of the litrpg genre, but provides something endearing by itself. I was disappointed at forst that this wasn't a progression of the first book, but five minutes in and I was hooked regardless. it's high stakes action in a completely toned back manner of most fantasy novels and it's a good break from the more mainstream titles. This series is for sure in my top 5 so far, and I'm not ashamed to admit that tears were shed in the epilogue. Can't wait for the next one!

I’m crying!❤️
L&L has become a comfort read that I dive into when I need something warm and fuzzy. Bookshops and Bonedust, while having the same feel, took me on an adventure and in the end; excitement, glee and tears met me as the story concluded. Travis, thank you for this story, and I dare say I hope to read more in the world of Vic and friends in the future!!

This is a fantastic series for anyone who loves a fantasy setting. The characters are well developed and intriguing. It’s a great change of pace from the typical high stakes fantasy novel.

A Little Lacking, But A Fun Story
I enjoyed checking in with Viv and company again, and learning a bit more about our favorite orc lady’s backstory. I experienced serious gamer girl inspired reading nostalgia with Legends & Lattes, so I was really excited to read Boookshops & Bonedust. I will say that I felt this one lacked a little something compared to the first. I would have liked a bit more of the bookshop scene, but I suppose this is an expected complaint from any bookish reader.
This is a quick and quaint read for anyone looking for something just a little different. Baldree does a great job of painting a vibrant picture of his unusual characters’ stories and the world in which they live.
As for the audio, Baldree is a great narrator who offers a nice array of voices that make the story a joy to listen to.

Exceptional narration aside, this is another light pleasant fantasy in the series. I appreciate making the mundane important and the side characters keys, much like Drew Hayes NPCs. Another pleasant story. Thanks.

Fantastic Writing!
Writing of this quality is almost wasted on the genre. No one reads fantasy for literature-grade writing, but that's what this writing is: literature.
