For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Very little to no magic. No interaction with the far at all.
Reviewed: 05-22-23
This story is more about a a veteran/EMT interpersonal growth. The excesses of old money. The lengths family members will go to sequester the elderly in an effort to obtain more wealth. If your looking fantasy fiction with lots of magic, skip this book.there is very little mention/interaction with the pixies or fairies. They’re never seen by anyone. There’s a lot about domestic service, misconceptions about the physical and cognitive function of the geriatric population, specifically dementia. It was interesting however, but very slow. It is also boasts a unpredictable plot.

When a back-alley brawl leaves me marked with a bizarre Celtic crest on my back, I become a beacon for all things whacked and weird. My dad is obviously freaked when he sees the tat, but he won't discuss it. So, I do what any stubborn redheaded lass would - I ignore all advice and fly to the Emerald Isle to get answers. And yeah...you know that saying about hindsight being 20/20? True story.

I was expecting the cliche story line and characters but was pleasantly surprised. But I should t with Michael Anderly co-writing. I love the accents and each character voices was unique. Narrator did a bang up job. I like the characters growth, unpredictability and the little details that were explained instead of just glazed over. Worth the credit.

I was intrigued and pleasantly surprised at the depth of characters or the emotional investment devoted to these characters. This isn’t a predictable vapid story that seems customary to this genre. Pleasantly surprisingly.

Story
The beloved King Ik is dead, and there was barely time to check his pulse before the royal throne was supporting the suspiciously shapely backside of an impostor pretending to be Ik's beautiful, long-lost daughter. With the land's heroic hunks busy drooling all over themselves, there's only one man left who can save the kingdom of Jenair. His name is Dungar Loloth, a rural blacksmith turned innkeeper, a surly hermit, and an all-around nobody oozing toward middle age, compensating for a lack of height, looks, charm, and tact with guts and an attitude.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Narrator dais an excellent job. I like that you couldn’t predict any phase of it so the plot really thickened. Like the puns. Jiminy stole the show. And there are pirates! The nemesis’ were original. Will listen to another book from this writer. A series would be even better. I’ll even settle for a book 2. If you like humour and grand adventures with a sprinkling of magic, then you love this book. So glad I got it on sale during Black Friday. Best $6 spent.

I’ve listened to all the books in the series but this one is by far my favourite. I just loved Val. He’s not the quintessential hero, but one with many flaws. I kinda like the fact that he’s a bad boy/ maybe a sociopath.

Silver is so stupid
Reviewed: 08-26-19
I can’t stand it. I invested this much time on this series and have become exasperated with Silver’s poor decisions. I mean you hiding from tarek but you spend the entire time refusing the body guards helped and spend the entire time chit chatting with the cop? For a so-called smarting mage, she’s such an idiot. The choices she makes are so asinine. She gives a bad wrap to females. I mean such a waste of a gift on this idiot of a female. The overuse of the word idiot for this review should be enough of a hint to tell you what to expect listening to this book. So disappointed.

I liked the first book better but it was ok
Reviewed: 08-22-19
I loved the first book so I endured this one. I liked it, not loved it. Not to ruin the review, but spoiler alert, I’m not expecting Aliens in romantic vampirism. Now don’t get me wrong, I liked 3/4 of the book but that addition of the ruined it for me.
Now I will try book three in the attempt to redeem this one.
