Story
I never was a badass. Or a slut, a junkie, or a stoner, like they told me I was. I was just a kid looking for something good, something that felt like love. I was a wannabe in a Levi's jean jacket. Anybody could see that. Except my mother. And the staff at Straight. I was 13 when I ran away from my abusive home. After a month in a shelter for kids - the best month of my childhood - my mother heard about Princess Di and First Lady Nancy Reagan's visit to this place that was working miracles with troubled teens. Straight Inc., it was called.

For anyone who's been through a program anything like this, please proceed with caution. Speaking for myself, I have been through a program similar in many ways to what's described in this book and reading/listening to this was like ripping open old wounds that once took many years to heal. There was nothing therapeutic about it for me and I struggled getting through it, mostly doing so out of my own stubbornness and refusal to let it win; which I should've just listened to my gut reaction and stopped ¼ of the way through. It dug up a lot of bad memories and "triggered" me to the point I practically felt as if I was reliving a lot of the old trauma. So please proceed with caution if this applies to you... or better still, for your own good please just don't proceed at all.
That being said..
This author did a really good job of articulating what the program is like with an exceptional attention to detail. I rated it 4 stars because I can see how other listeners could find it confusing and might think she's crediting the program for her success in life, as well as saving her from a seedy existence. I, however, read between the lines and see how the program most likely took away part of her soul and left her with even more trauma she'll probably spend the remainder of her years trying to cope with. For as detailed as the book was, the ending seemed glossed over and rushed through.

Story
Tim Kennedy has a problem; he only feels alive right before he’s about to die. Kennedy, a Green Beret, decorated Army sniper, and UFC headliner, has tackled a bull with his bare hands, jumped out of airplanes, dove to the depths of the ocean, and traveled the world hunting poachers, human traffickers, and the Taliban. But he’s also the same man who got kicked out of the police department, fire department, and as an EMT, before getting two women pregnant four days apart, and finally, been beaten up by his Special Forces colleagues.

Shocking but drags on
Reviewed: 08-14-22
Whether you believe in the supernatural or not, all can probably agree that this book seems to just drag on. I'm not entirely sure if it's just that or if the author could also benefit in a class for storytelling, but it takes away from what's otherwise a very interesting story.

Story
As seen on The Travel Channel’s The Dead Files, My Haunted House and the Animal Planet’s The Haunted, Hanover Haunting will leave you sleeping with the lights on. The haunting was so extreme, Amy Allen from The Dead Files warned DeAnna, “There are five men here and they all want you dead!” As DeAnna Simpson stood on the sidewalk, she knew she had to own the house on Maple Avenue. It called to her in a way she couldn’t explain. What she didn’t realize was that her dream home was filled with unspeakable evil.

Unnecessarily Dramatic
Reviewed: 07-25-22
This is a terrifying story, but a few things about the story were just as unnerving for me as the horrors within. First and foremost, you quickly get the sense that the lady going through the experience is overly dramatic and reactionary. So whether she's pinned to the ceiling of her room being assaulted by a demon, passing a stranger while walking down the street, or probably even when she goes to the bakery and finds out that they're out of her favorite donut—"the bones in her body fill with chills", or "every hair on her neck stands up".. I seriously picture her freaking out like this all the time whether or not it's paranormal at all. I picture it happening if her husband forgot to pick up the milk, or say an ant found its way into the kitchen. I'm doing my best to make light of it, when in reality I feel for anyone who's overly sensitive like this as they probably can't help it and would have a lot of work to do overcoming it.
The other much simpler reason I was so unnerved was the way she treated strangers. After putting herself in the public eye in every way possible to her, she immediately judged every person who took interest, unless they were famous of course.
With all that being said... The story itself truly is very frightening. I just wish I didn't need to try so hard figuring out where she ended and what was happening began. Overall it's still worth it as a book, is well written, and will keep your entertained whether or not you believe in the paranormal.

Story
Growing up, Jenny Pentland’s life was a literal sitcom. Many of the storylines for her mother’s smash hit series, Roseanne, were drawn from Pentland’s early family life in working-class Denver. But that was only the beginning of the drama. Roseanne Barr’s success as a comedian catapulted the family from the Rockies to star-studded Hollywood—with its toxic culture of money, celebrity, and prying tabloids that was destabilizing for a child in grade school.

I almost returned this having no idea how it ended up in my list, but I'm so glad that I didn't. Yes, she is Roseanne's daughter. No, the book is not all about Roseanne. Jenny is telling her own story. She is intelligent, funny, crafty, and much much more. This book also helped me a lot as I've gone through many of the same things as her and she did a much better job than I ever could have at articulating them.

Story
In this powerful book, the renowned exorcist of Rome tells of his many experiences in his ministry as an exorcist doing battle with Satan to relieve the great suffering of people in the grip of evil. The importance of the ministry to "expel demons" is clearly seen in the Gospels, from the actions of the Apostles, and from Church history. Fr. Amorth allows the listener to witness the activities of the exorcist, to experience what an exorcist sees and does.

Mostly disappointing and a bit xenophobic
Reviewed: 03-15-22
When I purchased this book, I was hoping to hear about the life of an exorcist. I wanted to hear about what it's like to perform an exorcism and maybe even give details from one or two. I also would have enjoyed knowing more about the process and what it's like to be one.
The book isn't a total loss, though. There are some great points here, and I too hope that exorcism becomes more accessible for those in need. Father Amorth spends large chunks of the book pushing his personal opinion rather than being informative. In some sections, he even comes across as bitter.
I was incredibly disappointed once he made clear his homophobia. I also found it disappointing that the book lacked details of any actual exorcism beyond a sentence or two. He also comes across a bit hypocritical, claiming that anything supernatural (psychics, medicine men, etc..) is from Satan, except when he uses their services himself.

Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

Beware
Reviewed: 03-20-21
It's a timeless and great book that, if you believe in this sort of thing, will haunt you. That being said, beware before reading this, whether or not you believe. Some of the content is so grotesque that it's the kind of thing you cannot unhear. It becomes incredibly vile and even gross at times. If you are religious be warned that you will be exposed to some of the most sacrilegious material I've ever come across.
None of the above is talking down on the book, it's merely a warning to those who may be sensitive to any of the things described.

Story
For the first time, Gucci Mane tells his story in his own words. It is the captivating life of an artist who forged an unlikely path to stardom and personal rebirth. Gucci Mane began writing his memoir in a maximum-security federal prison. Released in 2016, he emerged radically transformed. He was sober, smiling, focused, and positive - a far cry from the Gucci Mane of years past. Born in rural Bessemer, Alabama, Radric Delantic Davis became Gucci Mane in East Atlanta, where the rap scene is as vibrant as the dope game.

Such a crazy life he's lived.
Reviewed: 02-02-21
I rated the performance 4 out of 5 and that isn't the fault of the narrator. The narrator did an excellent job, but he isn't gucci. The audiobook greatly suffered from not having Gucci reading it himself, especially since he has such a distinct voice. That being said, it's fascinating to hear all of the things he has been through—yet how he repeatedly triumphs throughout all of that adversity.
