About this listen

Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

I really think what pulled the whole audible experience together was the gentlemen who read it... He was SUPERB. The story itself is creepy, disturbing, and thought provoking for present day, let alone for the early 70's!I highly recommend this book. It truly keeps the reader's attention, and truly brings the reader into suspension of disbelief. The author does a fantastic job of dancing between the clinical world of psychology, and the little known world of the supernatural and preternatural phenomena. If you liked the movie, you will LOVE the book.

Holy s@%&!!! Way creepier than the movie!

The voice actors reading this definitely give this version an aura of menace when appropriate.

Well worth the money

Reading this was like watching the movie over again in the car LOL. Line after line was the same. I wonder why they can't follow the book in so many other movies. This was a great book so why change the movie version? In this case they didn't and it was great. I was also surprised W P Blatty was such an awesome narrator. As soon as the book started it felt like no other person would have made it justice. I loved it and was sad when it was over.

Great!

Burned through this book! I don't even have kids, yet I found myself feeling deeply moved and emotionally charged to help this poor little girl and the people trying to help her, and searing anger toward the thing that inhabited her.. Perfect reading material around Halloween.

NARRATION: Can't speak highly enough here. So good that I had to pause right after the infamous, What an excellent day for an exorcism, line, to find out if it was the author who did the actual voice of the demon in the movie. (I'll let you form your own opinion and do your own research there.)

STORY: Starts a bit slow but picks up a couple chapters in, and does not stop. Yes there is some time spent getting to know the characters, but I loved every moment of it.

BEST PART: Hands down, when Father Karras plays the tape recording of Regan. I won't spoil it for anyone, because it's a very unexpected surprise, and it caused my eyes to immediately well up with tears of sympathy and anger.

Very highly recommend.

When I heard the narrator's sleepy, mellow voice at the beginning of the book. I have to admit that I was worried. However, he really did a nexcellent job. The demon voice really gave me the creeps, maybe just because of the contraast to his rather grandfatherly, telling a bed time story voice. Whatever the reason, by the end of the book I thought I might like to hear other books read by this narrator. So imagine my surprise when I discovered that the narrator was also the writer, William Peter Blatty.
The story was excellent, as you might expect. The movie was a classic for good reason. Any fan of horror will enjoy this thoroughly. Worth both the time, and the credit.

There's nothing better than when the author narrates their own novel. The story is so classic, so well written, and perfectly delivered by William Peter Blatty .

perfect narration.

At first I had a little trouble paying attention due to the author's calm, slightly boring voice, but he made up for it later on. As I continued listening, his voice just seemed right for the part. He did an excellent job with different character voices and they were very believable. It's like I could easily picture what the character looked like, and what kind of facial expressions he or she was making. As for the story, it was just perfect. It was a spot on mixture of horror, sadness, friendship, love and the strength of faith. This may be one of my new favorites.

Amazing book!
