Story
A game-changing peace treaty between Israel and the Saudis is nearly done. The secretary of state is headed to the region to seal the deal. And Special Agent Marcus Ryker is leading an advance trip along the Israeli-Lebanon border, ahead of the secretary’s arrival. But then Ryker and his team are ambushed by Hezbollah forces. The last thing the White House can afford is a new war in the Mideast that could derail the treaty and set the region ablaze. U.S. and Israeli forces are mobilizing to find the hostages and get them home, but Ryker knows the clock is ticking.

Guidall at his best
Reviewed: 04-15-21
I have not listened to any Rosenberg books but this one was great. That said, however, I am writing a review only because there were some many haters of George Guidall in some of the reviews. I couldn't figure it out so I wondered if something happened to George recently that made this book badly narrated. NOPE!!! Guidall is amazing. I seek books that he narrates. This book is great on its own, but Guidall makes it even better. If you like spy novels, you will like this one.

My name is Alphonse Malloy, and I see everything. From a simple glance, I know your hobbies, what you ate for breakfast, how well you slept, and whether or not your wife is secretly seeing the high school biology teacher when you're not around. I can't explain how or why I get these feelings, only that I know they're true. All the little secrets you're too afraid to tell. Sometimes, that means helping people. Other times, it means staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. I wish I could tell you I was using this ability for good.

FBI Agent Emmy Dockery is absolutely relentless. She's young and driven, and her unique skill at seeing connections others miss has brought her an impressive string of arrests. But a shocking new case - unfolding across the country - has left her utterly baffled. The victims all appear to have died by accident, and have seemingly nothing in common. But this many deaths can't be coincidence. And the killer is somehow one step ahead of every move Dockery makes. How? To FBI Special Agent Harrison "Books" Bookman, everyone in the FBI is a suspect - particularly Emmy Dockery.

Not great and too many political messages
Reviewed: 07-30-19
I think Patterson has written too many books with Bill Clinton. Literally every 10 minutes you are reminded that men are jerks and women continuously get talked down to and harassed. There are two mysteries that are being solved in this book and if you can't guess one of them you are a dope. I will say that it gets intriguing towards the end but the book is filled with so much social justice warrior stuff it is tough to listen to. If you are left leaning and think women are always taken advantage of then maybe you won't mind it, but I had a tough time finishing it.

good but four hours too long

The book is okay. Not bad and it has its moments where it is gripping. But it takes too long to get there, and it dives into details that are sort of boring. Again it is good and has action in it but not amazing.

On opening day of the new baseball season a small model-kit airplane flies down from the stands and buzzes the mound, where a decorated veteran pilot is about to throw out the first ball. The toy plane is the exact replica of the one flown by the war hero. Everyone laughs, thinking it's a prank or a publicity stunt. Until it explodes, killing dozens. Seconds later a swarm of killer drones descend upon the picnicked crowd, each one carrying a powerful bomb. All across the country artificial intelligence drive systems in cars, commuter trains and even fighter planes go out of control.

I can't tell if the narrator makes this book stink or it just stinks. I know everyone gave this a good review but holly cow I suffered through this. Yes there was good action, which I love, and I am okay with a little over the top embellishments but...wow this we ridiculous. It was like the author or the narrator watched the A team too much when he was a kid and modeled everything after Hannibal ("I love it when a plan comes together"), If you love cheese ball campy lines then by all means this book is for your, but in my opinion it is stupid on so many levels. I won't listen to another.

The 16th Amendment to the Constitution legalized federal income tax, but what if there were problems with the 1913 ratification of that amendment? Secrets that call into question decades of tax collecting. There is a surprising truth to this possibility—a truth wholly entertained by Steve Berry, a top-ten New York Times bestselling writer, in his new thriller, The Patriot Threat.

The history alone is worth the read. Also the new format where Steve Berry gives you a tid bit at the end of the chapter is a blast. I hate when I have to wait until the end of the book to find out what is fact and fiction. I did not give the story a 5 star because it was really good and worth the listen but it wasn't earth shattering. It was a good classic Malone book.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
I think Lou Diamond Phillips got a bunch of his buddies and had them write bad reviews of Scott Brick. Brick knocks this out of the park. Although I like LDP, Brick is way better, sorry Chavez.
Any additional comments?
Greany makes this story less predictable and less formulaic. It seems edgier to me. Also there is a significant part of the book dedicated to another CIA character (I don't want to ruin it) and that is really cool. It is a good listen

Kind of boring until the end
Reviewed: 10-14-14
What did you like best about Tokyo Kill? What did you like least?
Scott Brick does a good job but that is it really. It is really boring until there is about 2 hours left, then it speeds up.
What was most disappointing about Barry Lancet’s story?
To me the story is kind of stupid. He gets a job and that night his client's son dies and he is 8000% going to get the bad guys. It was like he had to get toed into the wave without the story developing. It was like the author so wanted to write about the Japanese culture and had to write a novel around it.
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
If you are reading this you know Scott Brick does a good job. I bought this because of him and, although he did a good job, the book was not very good.
Was Tokyo Kill worth the listening time?
Not really
