Publisher's summary

On opening day of the new baseball season a small model-kit airplane flies down from the stands and buzzes the mound, where a decorated veteran pilot is about to throw out the first ball. The toy plane is the exact replica of the one flown by the war hero. Everyone laughs, thinking it's a prank or a publicity stunt. Until it explodes, killing dozens.

Seconds later a swarm of killer drones descend upon the picnicked crowd, each one carrying a powerful bomb. All across the country artificial intelligence drive systems in cars, commuter trains and even fighter planes go out of control. The death toll soars as the machines we depend upon every day are turned into engines of destruction.

Joe Ledger and the Department of Military Sciences go on the hunt for whoever is controlling these machines, but the every step of the way they are met with traps and shocks that strike to the very heart of the DMS. No one is safe. Nowhere is safe. Enemies old and new rise as America burns.

Joe Ledger and his team are back in Jonathan Maberry's seventh book in the series. They begin a desperate search for the secret to this new technology and the madmen behind it. But before they can close in the enemy virus infects Air Force One. The president is trapped aboard as the jet heads toward the heart of New York City. It has become PREDATOR ONE.

Except for a drama queen main character it's great

I've always enjoyed this series... with one exception. The narration of the main character, Joe Ledger, is nauseating. If anyone talked like that in real life you'd call him a drama queen. It makes him sound like he believes everything he says is witty and really important but everyone else thinks he's a self-absorbed idiot. It's strange b/c Ray Porter does a good job with the other characters but for Joe Ledger he comes off as someone who needs to take a bullet to the voice box.

GREAT NEW LEDGER!!

The last couple have been good but this one was awesome! Oddly there wasn't a particular set of bad guys like zombies or genetically altered people/creatures BUT it wrapped up a previous story line or two. I really like Toys being a good guy looking for a modicum of redemption. I liked the addition of Banshee!! It was a busy book with at least 3 different story lines going on at once. Love Sam!! Well done! As usual Ray Porter IS the voice of Joe Ledger! Perfect all around! 5 STARS!

Story slightly complicated

But wonderfully written, it's nice to see Joe happy at the end of this book still. Such a wonderful end.

Best in the series

At the edge of my seat for the entire book. I didn't think Jonathan could do so many horrible things to so many characters all in a single book. Emotional roller coaster. I can only imagine him thinking "what can I do next and to who?".

Can't wait for the next book to see how the team (and world) is recovering.

Another great adventure

Great addition to the series! Not a boring moment and plenty of the grit you have come to expect from Joe Ledger

A strange phenomenon....

I find myself in a strange situation in regards to this book. In my opinion, the story told in this book (same thing goes for the 6th book of this series) is just not quite as good as the stories in the earlier installments. However, I find myself liking the book just as much, if not MORE, than the earlier books?! I have realized that what is happening is that I love the world and characters created here by Maberry, as well as the narration by Ray Porter, so much that the story simply doesn't need to be as good in order for me to enjoy the experience. Is that strange? I think it is. It also leads me to wonder just how much I would have loved this book even more if the plot quality would have been on par with some of the earlier books!

I truly wish that Maberry would get Joe Ledger back to his roots. Get him back to mostly field work, and kicking butt. So much of the story in the last 2 books is how Joe feels....rather than what Joe does. And more importantly, what Joe does to the bad guys he runs into! I just miss the old Joe, I guess. Haha...

Still, the narration and the characters and their interaction are top notch, and will keep me coming back for more and more.

Amazing from end to end.

This is my introduction to the Joe Ledger series. Held my captivated for the duration. The narrator owns it and does a superb job. Highly recommended.
