Story
Villains aren't born, they're made. Witt was an ordinary NPC - a non-player character in a video game. As a kobold skald, he sang songs to empower heroes before they entered the local dungeons. Every day was a fresh start. Every day Witt woke with no memory of his previous encounters with all those so-called heroes. And every day he forgot the countless beatings and deaths he took at the hands of the murder hobos he valiantly buffed. But when all of those memories suddenly come flooding back, he only wants one thing: Revenge.

Warning minor spoilers in this review:
NPC wakes up and realizes his life of helping the supposed good guys may not have really been the best path. Goes to the villain side, but author does a great job of leading us along the path of why. Love a book that doesn't have a clear good vs. evil where one is always right and the other is always wrong. Has some stats, not too many. Does deal with game mechanics, which is kind of fun. Short fun read!

Office Space Humor meets Dungeon Core

Warning minor spoilers: Ex bad team (former dungeon raiders) turn to the good side (dungeon protectors), but are still kind of just weak office nerds. Decide to try to prove themselves and hijinks ensue. Great descriptions of armor, weapons, traps, loot, spreadsheets, and more! Nice to read a book with mixed gender teams that aren't just love interests.
Narration was great and all the accents and voices were fun!

Ever wonder what happened to the Isekai’d gamer who found himself incarnated into the overweight body of a LitRPG farmer, only to spit in the face of destiny and earn more money and experience than anyone ever dreamed possible? Fairytales would have you believe he lived happily ever after, but life doesn’t always match up to fairytale endings. Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer turned clerical error, has now become a thorn in the vindictive Northern Regent’s side.

Character, system, and world growth
Reviewed: 12-10-23
I read book two almost as randomly as I read book one and thoroughly enjoyed it. The game system the author has created and grows in the book is different. The struggle the main character continues to have against the parameters of having to be a farmer in the system is a fun story. Having interesting characters grow with the main character, but not over power the story keeps the book interesting. Also enjoy the silly humor, even if a little dark at times.
Would love to see more from this world and these characters in more book out of the series!

Sci-fi historica fiction on lunar base

This was my favorite in the series so far. Although the main point of view character is Nichole and therefore different than the prior books, I just appreciated the character development more at this point. All of the characters seemed to have more depth and the story had a fun mystery element. As always I enjoy the alternate time line of historical fiction and the thoughtful dialogue about race, class and gender.

Light hearted Lit RPG great characters
Reviewed: 03-26-23
I picked this one up randomly when looking for longer lit RPG options and it is hard not to pass up 3 books for one credit. It is more of a young adult style, but don't let that turn you away! Instead of getting caught up in overly descriptive adult themes, the author spends time on character, world, and game ideas. It is young adult, so does get a little neatly packaged, but I really enjoyed reading the 3 independent story arcs. The narration was fantastic. I wish there were more books in the setting, but for people who will only read complete series this has it all. Great underdog story! Highly recommend for fun reading, will now be looking into author's other books.

Mary Robinette Kowal continues the grand sweep of alternate history begun in The Calculating Stars. The Fated Sky looks forward to 1961, when mankind is well established on the moon and looking forward to its next step: journeying to, and eventually colonizing, Mars. Of course the noted Lady Astronaut Elma York would like to go, but there’s a lot riding on whoever the International Aerospace Coalition decides to send on this historic - but potentially very dangerous - mission. Could Elma really leave behind her husband and the chance to start a family to spend several years traveling to Mars?

The gigantic comet had slammed into Earth, forging earthquakes a thousand times too powerful to measure on the Richter scale, tidal waves thousands of feet high. Cities were turned into oceans; oceans turned into steam. It was the beginning of a new Ice Age and the end of civilization. But for the terrified men and women chance had saved, it was also the dawn of a new struggle for survival--a struggle more dangerous and challenging than any they had ever known....

1970's future is now outdated
Reviewed: 06-05-22
The premise of the book was good and I think I would have loved it as a kid in the 70's/80's. Reading it in 2022 just reminded me how annoying the background misogyny was back then. Even though this would have been a forward thinking book at the time. The main characters were all men with annoying character flaws. The women who came and went were unidementional with occasionally interesting points of inner conflict, but overshadowed by the lack of being able to escape being a women of the 70's. If you want a slow paced, pre and post-apocalyptic Sci-fi, to remember how far the genre has come, this is it!

This was a great book with almost a whole book worth of story on each group/character. I loved going back to Wistram academy days and learning more about the backgrounds of Ceria and Pisces. Ryoka and Erin are maturing and less annoying. I love how intertwined everything is and all the world building. The narrator is just amazing at making all the different characters stand out from each other!

This was a great next installment of Dungeon Crawler Carl. The characters are known to us at this point, but keep developing. The premise of this level was very creative! Besides old mine cars, I am not sure I have ever seen any other dungeon crawls use trains. It was a very fun level and the narrator is awesome as always. Can't wait to read the next one!
