About this listen

Welcome to the Gun Show!

The top 10 list is populated. The sponsorship program is open. The difficulty is ramping up. The first three floors were nothing compared to what Carl and Donut now face.

The Iron Tangle. An impossibly complicated subway system built out of the world's subterranean railway systems, all combined and then tied together into a knot. Up is down. Down is up. Close is far. The cars are filled with monsters, the railway stations are less than safe, and the exit is always just a few stops away.

But there is hope. For the first time, the crawlers are all working together. The loot is better than ever. And the secret to unraveling it all may be hidden in the pages of a seemingly useless book.

Welcome, crawlers. Welcome to the fourth floor of the dungeon.

Good Book but a Lot Of small Annoying Parts

Annoying Parts
- Cat always typing in caps and reader shouting every time.. was funny for a bit but by book 3 its so annoying I almost didnt buy book 4, even though the story is fun

General review:
- Interesting take on for an litrpg story. Fun to listen to and not just all killing babies like someone mentioned. General story line good and a fun listen. Still a dungeon crawl story but with a twist.

Twisted Action and Carnage with Plenty of Laughs

The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook, written by Matt Dinniman is the third audiobook in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, and I snatched this the second I saw it drop on Audible. I've re-listened to the first two a couple of times each now to help fill the void while waiting for the next book.

In this book, Carl, Donut, and new teammate Katia find themselves on the fourth floor of the dungeon, unlike anything that came before. Just first up, I think this is a stellar way to keep the series fresh since each level lets Dinniman come up with something as mind-bendingly bonkers as the Iron Tangle after a tromp through the over-city of a dormant volcano, after the initial levels of actual dungeon.

This book wasn't as flat-out as the others, which I suspected after the end of the third book where Carl had expressed he would be focussing on grinding and level-ups from now on. This level of the dungeon suited that well, while at that same time ratcheting up the gore and violence to extreme new levels.

Plenty of genuinely laugh-out-loud moments, seriously inspired use of weapons, clever name-puns... and Prepotente the screaming goat thing who had me dying of laughter.

This is not an easy book to follow, but prior to getting this I had taken a peek inside the cover of the Kindle version and noticed a note from the author who said it wasn't really that important to understand. It's meant to be confusing, so I just went with it. I think I was getting the general hang of it all by the end.

Bucketloads of character growth in this one from the main cast. It was nice to see Katia growing in skill and confidence, and I think Mordecai's arc was needed and a stroke of genius for the sake of the characters.

Jeff Hayes once again knocks it out of the park with his narration. I love the voice of Carl, perfectly capturing his exasperation and dry-wit. The dungeon AI voice often has me cracking up too. The addition of Will Jordan as a guest narrator... was a choice. I'm not sure it was something that was needed. It didn't detract from the story, but I'm so used to Hayes it was obvious when it wasn't him.

Get into this series TODAY if you've not done so already!

This damn series!

I don't want to sound so cliche but this damn series is so good and how such a unique twist on the typical litrpg genre.

Anyone who reads this, do NOT turn off the audiobook after it reaches the end of the story. You'll thank me.

A Rapid Trip down the Track to Station Entertainment

Another solid edition of the trials faced by the “Palace of Princess Donut” & the Anarchist Carl. But in this one, they flesh out Katia & throw in a little chaos & throw you off base by killing off some of the top 10 & introducing some other supporting characters. Great narration & performance by the entire voice cast. Highly entertaining!

Oh Geez…

This entire series has had me laughing out loud. My family has questioned my sanity as I cackle maniacally.

This LitRPG series hits every point that, in my opinion, shows true literary talent. In addition to the episodic stories, the overall story arc develops well. The character development is spot on. The reader/listener gets to watch the characters grow while maintaining their personalities. Keeping actions and dialogue consistent with character development is tougher than one may think. Matt Dinniman does not take the easy way out with a “Deus ex machina” in any of the plot developments.

I resonated deeply with the humor as well. Some may call it sophomoric or crude, but I just call it funny.

As a fan of Jeff Hays already, this series is likely some of his best work yet. The range of voices, accents, tonality, and sheer brilliance of interpretation and delivery of the author’s voice was outstanding. It was such a natural pairing that it’s almost as if Dinniman wrote the book with Hays in mind to begin with.

The next book cannot get here soon enough.

This book is hands down the best one of the series

Never have I been more on the edge of my seat for an entire book before but this book has managed to keep me hanging off every word. There are parts that are just a few sentences but have had more weight behind them than a runaway train. This book is literally a "wild train ride" and the fact that the floor was train themed just made everything better. Everyone has what feel like their character arc's and the more little info you get about Carl's backstory makes me more attached to his character. I can't wait for book 4 to be another slam dunk 5/5 star book
