About this listen

Pirateaba returns, bringing you the thrilling fourth instalment of chart-topping LitRPG series The Wandering Inn.

It’s still winter, but everyone’s on the move. Rags the goblin is heading north, seeking allies against the Goblin Lord.

And Erin is going home...or trying to, at least. She’s determined to bring back cheer to The Wandering Inn - as well as Christmas! But the coldest time of the year leads to strange encounters with a number of people.

At the same time, Ryoka Griffin is far from what she would consider to be “home”. Deep in the north, in the city of Invrisil, she finds herself as the guest of Magnolia Reinhart. She must carefully negotiate the good graces of the Deadly Flower of the North. Like Erin, her success depends on friendships made by meetings of coincidence.

Includes the story of Wistram Days, when Ceria and Pisces first meet in the Academy of Mages, Wistram.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

This is a great series. It gets better and better, and seems like it never has to end. Many thanks to the author. Also, the narrator is amazing.

An awesome addition

I normally listen only to LITRPG books. I consider this more epic fantasy but I have listened to the series 3 times and enjoy it and catch more nuance each time.

another great book

The Wandering Inn is a fabulously complex, character driven fantasy, set amidst a hugely fascinating and well-developed world, with myriad races and skills and food and politics and history and even monsters (which I don't like!), but especially characters to be loved, or at least deeply intriguing characters. The private author, pirateaba, writes prodigiously, and as a web serial. This particular volume is not the one to start with, I assure you.

I'm not as keen on some aspects as others, which is only normal when the menu of "aspects" is colossal. While I wish Erin's voice was not pitched quite so high, and some of the fast talking and very accented characters are hard to understand (Ivolethe, Octavia, a couple adventurers), I have read the stories already and more than once...despite that, the narrator is extremely skilled and superb. She made the sections with Ryoka much more engrossing for me than in the initial reading, for instance. I didn't like the scary/surreal winter solstice events with Erin and Ryoka, at all, but no reader can be expected to love absolutely everything when there is such a vast universe and story documented in excellent writing. Please keep the Audible versions coming!!!

Fabulous, but start at the beginning!

I’ve really enjoyed this series so far, but this has been my least favorite. There were definitely moments that were amazing, but very slow through a large percentage. The backstory with Wistram was especially hard for me to get through. Overall though, it was still entertaining.

Some fun, some a bit tedious

Finally starting to focus on a few main characters with just enough side stories. Great listen.

Best one so far

Piretaba continues the awesome journey. The time spent on the backstory of the mages really adds breadth to the characters. This is definitely my favorite LitRPG series!
Andrea Parsneau is an amazing narrator as she has always been.

Better and better
