Publisher's summary

Villains aren't born, they're made.

Witt was an ordinary NPC - a non-player character in a video game. As a kobold skald, he sang songs to empower heroes before they entered the local dungeons.

Every day was a fresh start. Every day Witt woke with no memory of his previous encounters with all those so-called heroes. And every day he forgot the countless beatings and deaths he took at the hands of the murder hobos he valiantly buffed.

But when all of those memories suddenly come flooding back, he only wants one thing:

Revenge.

Everyone loves to root for a relatable villan

Warning minor spoilers in this review:
NPC wakes up and realizes his life of helping the supposed good guys may not have really been the best path. Goes to the villain side, but author does a great job of leading us along the path of why. Love a book that doesn't have a clear good vs. evil where one is always right and the other is always wrong. Has some stats, not too many. Does deal with game mechanics, which is kind of fun. Short fun read!

Kobolds, Kobolds, everywhere!!

This book is delightful. I enjoy reading a book from an NPC's perspective and being able to see those players who enjoy killing the NPC's, just because they can, get what they deserve. Wit is everything you hope an NPC was. Strong and willing to fight against those that would harm him and those he cares about. The fact that the MC is a Kobold just makes this story even better. I've loved Kobold stories since I was young and to see a Kobold get their own story and be seen as the strong creatures they are is the cherry on top of that beautiful sundae. This novella is exciting. The only negative I would say is that it's a novella and not a series. This book deserves to become a series!!

A different take on a LitRPG book

This book is from the perspective of a NPC as the Main Character. The story flows well, the narrator does a great job conveying the different voices of the characters. What is really different about this story from others that I have read is that eventually the MC starts remembering all of his deaths from the hands of players, thus he wants revenge and turning himself into a villain. And as a villain I was rooting for him the whole time and I was not disappointed. This is another great book by a great author; and if you are a fan of LitRPG and the show Westworld, I believe that you will thoroughly enjoy this book. I cannot wait for the sequel!!

Good story

Definitely a good story but definitely could have been a bit longer. A lot of the books I read are 12 hours plus so it just seemed so short.

Don't push the little guy

while I was listening to this the main thing I was thinking was that if this was a good the admins would be called to fix the Kobald.

Interesting

Fairly good book. The MC was an interesting choice in terms of Character Class. I was surprised to not see any racial grudges present.

There were a few spots that felt rushed or out of place, but otherwise it didn't affect my experience.

A good guy turned bad for the right reasons

If you want a story where everything goes to plan and the heroes come out on top, this book isn't for you. If you want a story where a good guy gets pushed too far and does bad things for a good reason, and leaves you questioning if you were rooting for the right side then you have come to the right place.
