mashed potato in my ears
Reviewed: 06-17-25
Honestly, wasn't impressed. The science fiction tag should be forever stripped from this title.
There's only a couple of tales in here that I'd consider as sci-fi, the rest are drivel.
The change of narrators is jarring too, really runs the spectrum from a decent voice to stale, dry, mashed potatoes in my ears.

This one didn't....hit....like the previous books in this series.
Idk why, can't put my finger on it but I'm left feeling, hmm....unfulfilled?
Oh well, not giving up on the series, looking forward to the next installment.

Story
The Galahad, a faster-than-light spacecraft, carries 50 scientists and engineers on a mission to prepare Kepler 452b, Earth's nearest habitable neighbor at 1400 light years away. With Earth no longer habitable and the Mars colony slowly failing, they are humanity's best hope. After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. This is the first time William dies.

A long convoluted storyline that weaves through many characters. The sort of thing I'd normally run screaming away from BUT....not this time! Midway through the very first novel I discovered I was enthralled and horrified by that when I looked at how many books are in this series. No, not a series, but a tale, an alternative universe of wonder awaits you here.
So go ahead, buy the whole thing. I've finished listening to it all and I have to say I'm well satisfied with my purchase.

Cherry Bomb, an A.I. made human—and immortal—is out for revenge against her creator, Will, who left her on the Galahad, a ship full of unholy monsters, traversing the universe from beginning to end, ad infinitum. Countless years pass, giving her more than enough time to plot her revenge. Upon gaining control of the ship, she sets her plan in motion, building a vast army and reforming the universe as she sees fit.

Story
Find the missing. Fear the found. Three months have passed since the aliens' arrival, but little has changed in the skies. Motherships still hover, impervious to attack and communication. Spherical shuttles ferry about with unclear intentions. But the abductions of select humans have ended, and most of those taken have been returned - dazed, incoherent, and prophesying glory or doom, but home where they belong. Still, nine seemingly unconnected people remain missing.

I'm sorry, but the ineptitude and stupidity of the characters in this novel and beyond painful. The only one (Meyer) who shows any sense hasn't reappeared yet but im not making it that far. Returning it.
Perhaps it's my own preparedness making this so intolerable to listen to.
As always though, Ray delivers an outstanding performance.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Overall, the stories were good but unfortunately the narration sucks!
I am not sure if it was her recording equipment or just her voice but it totally ruined it for me and I couldn't finish the book
Will be seeking a return on this one for just that reason.
