Story
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Both narrators were great! This was my first book with two and it was a game changer! It brought the story to life. I was a little disappointed to find there aren’t any sequels. It is a good book.

There wasn’t a wild twist like there is in Freida’s other books. It is a good book though.

Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young. There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no Internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents - unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers - that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world.

Good book. I’m going to see if my son (12) would like it. No swearing or inappropriate content. One thing that bothered me throughout the entire book was the narrator’s emphasis on ‘Sam said.’ Anytime anyone spoke and it said ‘character said’ after it, that phrase was more emphasized than anything else in the chapter and it drove me crazy!! The narrator had great voices and you could tell who was speaking just from the voice he did. It would be a lot better if he didn’t emphasize that phrase every single time someone spoke. Or if he just said it in a normal voice instead of putting so much emphasis on it. Can you tell it REALLY bothered me? Haha, that’s my only complaint. It’s awesome that it’s included in the membership!

This is a goood series. The plot is good. The science is good. The narrator is decent. I wish there was more character development, and the descriptions went a little more in depth. The plot is a little thinner than some of the other books I’ve read. But overall it’s pretty good. I love that it has books one through four as one credit!!

Adam and I are both going through identity crises of epic proportions as we transition from who we were and discover who we were meant to be. More Fae are dying, and I feel as if time is running out for us to find all of those responsible and put an end to the killings. The people I thought I could trust have betrayed me, and the one person I should absolutely not trust is taking me deeper and deeper into his world.

I loved the male narrator in the first book. He was the perfect voice for the character. I do not like the new one. I was very disappointed. Everything else is very good. Some things in the book are too glossed over rather than explained and I don’t like that but it’s such a minor thing.

Great series- frustratingly expensive.
Reviewed: 02-08-24
This series could EASILY be split into about 3 books. However, now I’m about to purchase book NINE. I have spent so much money on this series it’s ridiculous, frustrating, and aggravating!!! Books end MID MISSION. It’s not cliff hangers, there is no rhyme or reason to where the books start or end. It’s like the publishers thought ‘ok this book is about 8 hours long. That’s good enough. Let’s end this one here.’ It’s beyond irritating. I’ve spent well over $100 on this ONE SERIES. It’s frankly a bunch of BS! But it’s good. And I have to see it through. RC Bray is the God of all narrators which is why I initially started this series. He doesn’t disappoint, and neither does the content of the books.

If you like whiney, depressed, repetitive MC’s then this book is for you. If you like never ending simile’s and the most unrealistic analogy’s you’ve ever heard in your life then this book is for you. If you want to shake the MC until they realize they need to make the obvious, easier, and (did I mention) OBVIOUS decision instead of the incredibly complicated and unnecessary one they are choosing instead, then definitely read this book. I liked the story. I like the plot. I wanted to like it so bad. I couldn’t make it through the second book. I made it through the first. I would say this is a decent read for teens, but it’s not. I know teens are emotional but not like this MC. I wouldn’t want my teen reading this and thinking it was okay to think and act like this. I get that she is supposed to be neglected and abused but it’s so repetitive. I found it completely unnecessary. Audible won’t let me return it. So I’m left extremely frustrated. I thought the narrator did a good job with what she had to work with. I liked how they added in the sound of crossing out words or tearing out notebook pages. I thought it was creative and interesting and reminded you how the story was being told, through a diary entry. I think this book could have been done a lot better. Maybe if a publisher went through and took out all the repetitive analogy’s and overly dramatic rants this would be a better book. I don’t know. It would probably be half as long too. If you read this entire vent session about this book then maybe you would like this book hahaha.

When Murderbot discovers a dead body on Preservation Station, it knows it is going to have to assist station security to determine who the body is (was), how they were killed (that should be relatively straightforward, at least), and why (because apparently that matters to a lot of people - who knew?). Yes, the unthinkable is about to happen: Murderbot must voluntarily speak to humans! Again!

I’ve been trying to figure out if I’m listening to these books out of order or something. Everything I find online says I’m reading them in the correct order. I’m the last book it implied he was going on a trip with ART. But Art was hardly mentioned in this book. So it left me confused. It’s good, funny, interesting. That was the only thing that bothered me.
