It’s not terrible

The plot is interesting and will make you want to read more but the storytelling is agonizing. The main character is frustrating. I got the trilogy set but had enough listening to Juliet‘s depressing thoughts and read the summary of the last book.

A dystopian soap that gets progressively better

The performance put in by the narrator was good. All the voices sounded distinct. Lots of melodrama and interesting character dynamics (loved Kenji and James!).

The plot and world building through the series was kind of meh for me. The conflict at the end of Ignite Me resolved a little more quickly than I would have liked. I was happy to see how Mafi's writing improved with each entry into this series, though. If you're a fiend for any of the tropes in the Shatter Me series I would definitely suggest Mafi's This Woven Kingdom series. That was my introduction to her and all the tropey stuff (twisted love triangle, villain with a secret heart of gold, tragic heroine that's supposed to be leading everyone to the promise land) that holds up Shatter Me is executed much better in This Woven Kingdom.

Sidenote: I am neither team Adam or Warner they are both awful. If I had to choose between a face-eating leopard (that plays nice with the heroine because she rationalizes his flaws...some might call them murdering/manipulating tendencies) and a dry Panera baguette with control/ anger issues...just...no. No, thank you to either.

Ahhhhh!

Whoever decided on the voice actors need to get paid extra extra because this was perfection! To the T this was amazingly beautifully soooo good!! Inhaled. Consumed. Obsessed.

Great story line, not for younger teens

I enjoyed the twists and story line of the book and the annoying noise people are referring to is on purpose. She carries a notebook and records things and the scratch sound is her changing her mind about recording it. Makes sense when you figure it out.
I was under the impression this was teen book and I was sharing with my teens, but these three books are filled with language and the Kenjy character can’t even speak without cussing. Also steamy sexual encounters just so you are aware for what age group. If a movie or series would be TV-14 or MA.

Great story, good narration, annoying sound interference

Great story, good narration, but very annoying sound interference. Loved the story, loved the narration overall, but there was a loud annoying sound like the kindle book swipe noise every minute or so, and it drove me bonkers. Actually considered not finishing it because of it, but glad I persevered cus the story was fabulous.

Bleh

The self loathing of Juliet gets so damn annoying. Really hope the last few books are better.

Great narration and great prose but…

Story is rough. The foundational world building concept was great but the overall 3-book arc for the character development is lackluster and predictable. Writing is often beautifully poetic but the story is predictable, cliche and just a volley of “he love me, he love me not.”

dystopian world with a twist

Book 1 was hard for me to get through but mainly because the main character sounded like a child and was very weak minded. Book 2 got better but still had a few cringe worthy moments from juliette. One minute she's a bad ass the next she's playing weak girl again but i understand that that's part of her character growth. Book 3 is where it got really good; juliette still has her annoying moments but she's finally no longer the weakling. Kenji is definitely a favorite and carried this series. I'm interested to see where the rest of the series goes from here.

Storyline was good a little sappy at times

how childlike the narrators voice was —-I got on my nerves… I thought the ending was a little abrupt
