It’s not terrible

The plot is interesting and will make you want to read more but the storytelling is agonizing. The main character is frustrating. I got the trilogy set but had enough listening to Juliet‘s depressing thoughts and read the summary of the last book.

A dystopian soap that gets progressively better

The performance put in by the narrator was good. All the voices sounded distinct. Lots of melodrama and interesting character dynamics (loved Kenji and James!).

The plot and world building through the series was kind of meh for me. The conflict at the end of Ignite Me resolved a little more quickly than I would have liked. I was happy to see how Mafi's writing improved with each entry into this series, though. If you're a fiend for any of the tropes in the Shatter Me series I would definitely suggest Mafi's This Woven Kingdom series. That was my introduction to her and all the tropey stuff (twisted love triangle, villain with a secret heart of gold, tragic heroine that's supposed to be leading everyone to the promise land) that holds up Shatter Me is executed much better in This Woven Kingdom.

Sidenote: I am neither team Adam or Warner they are both awful. If I had to choose between a face-eating leopard (that plays nice with the heroine because she rationalizes his flaws...some might call them murdering/manipulating tendencies) and a dry Panera baguette with control/ anger issues...just...no. No, thank you to either.

Ahhhhh!

Whoever decided on the voice actors need to get paid extra extra because this was perfection! To the T this was amazingly beautifully soooo good!! Inhaled. Consumed. Obsessed.

Siiiigghhhhh.... it was something

This is my opinion on this, but just a heads up for peeps. That weird noise you hear in the sample/story isn't an audible glitch, her heavily breathing into the mic, or her aggressively turning the page. It's supposed to be Juliette "crossing out a line in her journal." with a pen. I had to view the book on kindle to figure out what the actual heck that was after chapter 4 in book 1.

And speaking about chapter 4 in the first book,, just a friendly heads up...... the first page or 2 IS THE WORST THING THAT'S EVER EXISTED ON THIS WHOLE PLANET. The urge to throw my phone out of my moving car was so strong. I rather listen to Jim Carrey's scream from the movie dumb and dumber for 20 minutes than hear that again. You're probably thinking "wow that's a bit dramatic" but you have no idea if this is your first time listening to this book or not knowing what that weird sound in the background is. Adding flare to my dramatic rant, I played it for a few peeps so I wasn't the only one to suffer through it and no one was thrilled.

I hate giving negative reviews because it makes me feel bad, but honestly perhaps if I just read it I might have perhaps put up with it. I feel like I got bamboozled by all the high ratings from audible and goodreads. I am that person that LOVES YA books, and will finish any book/audible (mostly bc I spent a credit/money on it) but this was a challenge for me. The urge to roll my eyes constantly was concerning. I never been so annoyed by a main female character in my entire life. Without spoiling anything: Juliette was the worst. Book 1-2 was basically her crying and moaning the whole time. It made me hate that line "YoUrE So StRoNg." It didn't help that the book basically repeats every line she says/thinks then the next chapter she was a hypocrite like for ex, "No OnE LoVeS mE, Im So AlOnE,WoE iS mE" then pushes EVERYONE AWAY.(honestly book 3 she gets better, but her "character redemption/fixing" could've been better). For Adam: meh he was whatever, I know some people hated him but I guess his character was normal. For Warren: he was a simp. Honestly I didn't understand what he sees in Juliette (I know this is a fantasy romqnce but still) If it wasn't for him, I feel like I would break my streak of DNF, and I'll be bullying this author about why on earth she wrote this book. Because why does every 3 sentences in this 30 HOUR book has to be dramatic, the dialog was even wack, no one listens to eachother

Anyhow, don't let my negative self stop you from checking this book out, but heads up its just a bunch of angsty/whiney pubestic teens crying the whole time

Perfection as a narrator.

found this as a recommendation for audible on booktok -- i dont usually read or listen to post apocalyotic stories, but i am so glad i made an exception for this. not only is the story amazingly heart wrenching, and tragic, but i absolutely loved the way Kate Simses brought the voices to life. and i mean let's face it, gotta love a happy ending after crying for 3 books

5 out of 5 book

This book series is very enjoyable because it is engaging and constantly action pack. One thing I love about this book is the vocabulary terms used during the story.
