Story
I expected aging out of the foster care system to be hard. I wasn't expecting it to include finding out I was a Warlock, destined to be hunted by the most powerful Witch Families so they could bind me to a coven of thirteen witches and spend the rest of my life "harvesting mana". Add to that a set of magical resonants that made me an even bigger target to some of those Witch Families, some of which would rather kill me than let a rival get me.

Reviewed: 01-24-25
The story is a breath of fresh air, but the MC is an annoying idiot. I almost didn't finish as the last hour is nothing but whiney self loathing.

Story
James Holden has reached the maximum level there is for a human. That's perfect, because he's the only one of his kind: a wandering warrior, without control of his destination, tossed between universes by gods who've failed to tell him why. James is the lone Judge on a new world in need of someone to balance the scales. He isn't afraid to do so with extreme prejudice. As the Chief Justice, he has to right the wrongs the innocent can't fix themselves.

It was a really good story, but the MC did his best to be unlikable.
Reviewed: 11-02-24
I liked most of this book, I thought it was a great premise. I thought the MC was really badass.
My only problem with him is he used far too many idioms that didn't make any sense for a character who supposedly had been traveling worlds for 20 years. A few less Earth-like idioms and it would have been a lot more believable.

Story
Felix's life on Earth had become a series of dead-end jobs, ruined relationships, and rotating apartments smaller than most postage stamps. By all accounts, even his own, he was a coward. Too afraid to move forward, to take risks. Yet when given the chance to choose between risking his life or walking away from a deadly encounter, he didn't hesitate. Moments before his untimely demise, Felix was snatched from earth and thrust into a magical world known only as "The Continent". Empowered by the "System", he learns that he can strengthen himself through combat and dedication.

This would have been a favorite epic fantasy of mine except for one fatal flaw. The MC is a bumbling embecile. For a character who's main start is intelligence, foolish irrational choices abound. Do people like reading about idiot protagonists? I'll never understand the allure.

Potential ruined
Reviewed: 09-27-24
This book has potential, but was ruined with repetitive use of a gimmick which saw the MC repeat the process of thoughtlessly blundering into a fight, gets captured, miraculously escapes, kills all the baddies. After the fifth time in a row this happened I finally gave up. So strange that the author had so much imagination in other areas, but could only think of one way to write a fight.

Really great story
Reviewed: 06-18-24
I really liked this unique story. I don't normally enjoy LitRPG's, but this one did a good job of making it feel natural. It was very heavy on the science, but that gave it a sort of "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" feel, which I enjoyed.
Spoilers:
Fair warning, the MC seems to be bisexual, so there were some awkward parts that I couldn't identify with personally, but they weren't explicit and felt natural, so it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book overall.
