Story
The streets of San Francisco would be lined with hardcovers if rare book expert Brooklyn Wainwright had her way. And her mentor wouldn't be lying in a pool of his own blood on the eve of a celebration for his latest book restoration. With his final breath he leaves Brooklyn a cryptic message, and gives her a priceless - and supposedly cursed - copy of Goethe's Faust for safekeeping.

So much I didn't like. I'm am avid reader and this is giving me a headache. The character is young, careless, man hungry, and irresponsible. She has an arch rival who she claims is a psycho yet her best guy friend sticks up for her. and you think ditsy will realistically find the murderer?

Story
Christmas in Caerphilly is wonderful! Unless you’re a Canadian whose inconsiderate boss is forcing you to spend the holiday there, far from family and friends, with only a slim chance of a white Christmas. Meg already has her hands full, trying to make the season festive for the dozen programmers who are staying with her and Michael while working on a rush project with her brother’s software company. At least it’s an interesting project, since the Canadian company is doing forensic genealogy and DNA analysis. But when the boss is found murdered, there are too many suspects.

I'm frustrated. I should have made sure all the books were out before I started reading. Too much unfinished in each book. should stand alone but want more. instead I feel like the writer thinks she has to force your desire for the next book. Great story line and love the cat and Cora and the narrator. If 5 doesn't finish The Lavender Story I won't read another by this author.

Story
The woman’s body was found in the early morning, on a bench in a New York City playground. She was clean, her hair neatly arranged, her makeup carefully applied. But other things were very wrong—like the tattoo and piercings, clearly new. The clothes, decades out of date. The fatal wound hidden beneath a ribbon around her neck. And the note: Bad Mommy, written in crayon as if by a child.

I prepaid. but just awful narration.
The narrator is probably very good if she reads to small children. Voice is way too high and all characters the same.
