Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Stephen king like you've never heard before
Reviewed: 09-29-22
Continually amazed at Stephen King and his imagination. This isn't typical King work, more on pace with his more recent books but it is amazing none the less. Throughout the book I repeatedly asked myself "how in the world does a human brain conjur up these ideas." As a truck driver I consider one of the biggest perks is having 11 hours a day to listen to audiobooks and this is one of my favorites. I'm hesitant but very hopeful that the movie will be half as amazing as the book is. The narration is great and you'll be in for a pleasant surprise as far as that goes. So, what are you waiting for? A not so typical Fairy Tale awaits!!

when you finish this book, you'll wonder how in the world fox was silly enough to end the adapted TV show so quickly. Twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. The narrator is excellent as well.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Story
At 6:00 a.m. on the morning of October 3, 2009, Combat Outpost Keating was viciously attacked by Taliban insurgents. The 53 U.S. troops, having been stationed at the bottom of three steep mountains, were severely outmanned by nearly 400 Taliban fighters. Though the Americans ultimately prevailed, their casualties made it one of the war's deadliest battles for U.S. forces. And after more than three years in that dangerous and vulnerable valley a mere 14 miles from the Pakistan border, the U.S. abandoned and bombed the camp.

If your looking for similar reads to the likes of the stand or swan song this may disappoint. no supernatural influences, just a realistic approach to a black swan event crippling our great country. Narrator takes a while to get used to.
