Story
James de Vere has always insisted on being perfectly pragmatic and rational in all things. It seemed the only way to deal with his overdramatic, greedy family. When he falls ill and no doctor in London can diagnose him, he returns home to Grace Hill in search of a physician who can - or to set his affairs in order. Arriving at the doctor's home, he's surprised to encounter the doctor's daughter Laura, a young woman he last saw when he was warning her off an attachment with his cousin Graeme. Alas, the doctor is recently deceased and Laura is closing up the estate.

I came upon this book because I am a huge fan of Gildart Jackson, the narrator.
I could listen to him anytime all the time. I highly recommend Peter Granger’s mysteries which he narrates.
I was glad I came upon Candace Camp. She is a good writer and kept me interested throughout. But his narration was as always, the best.

Story
Luna Allen has done some things she would rather no one ever know about. She also knows that, if she could go back in time, she wouldn’t change a single thing. With three sisters she loves, a job she (mostly) adores, and a family built up of friends she’s made over the years, Luna figures everything has worked out the way it was supposed to. But when one of those secrets involves the man who signs her paycheck, she can’t find it in her to regret it. Despite the fact that he’s not the friendliest man in the world. Or the most patient.

My second book by Mariana Zapata and I loved it too!
Reviewed: 03-04-24
I want to take from this book the way Luna exercised self control but especially control over her own happiness. She never forgot how important and how much she liked her job. Sucked it up when she was being treated badly and focused on her own inner happiness and what was important in life.

I enjoyed the book and getting to know the Dales and the team working with Harry. Looking forward to the next book in the series. The narrator was excellent with his gruff voice that could turn into a young woman quite well. I thought he was perfect for the book.

This book was good, I wanted to listen nonstop but my reality won’t accommodate that, so I found time every chance I had free. Th narrator, Daisy Ridley, was wonderful. I will look for more of her books. My only objection was the ending felt rushed.

Story
For Susan Green, messy emotions don’t fit into the equation of her perfectly ordered life. She has a flat that is ideal for one, a job that suits her passion for logic, and an “interpersonal arrangement” that provides cultural and other more intimate benefits. But suddenly confronted with the loss of her mother and the news that she is about to become a mother herself, Susan’s greatest fear is realized. She is losing control.

She’s not particularly likable, a few old friends from Uni and and bad family relations to boot. But the author, Sarah Haywood, captured me from the beginning and made me care about this woman that had a childhood that was good looking on the outside but amazing that anyone could have their head on straight after living through it. I stayed interested in Susan and her sudden life changes from beginning to end. Well worth the credit.

Story
The new Kings Lake Central murder squad is about to spend its first morning on team-building exercises and reviewing cold cases when the call comes in that the body of one of the city's rough sleepers has been found in a shop doorway. It happens, someone says, he isn't the first to die on the streets and he won't be the last, but the story the new team begins to uncover is far from routine.

I have enjoyed all of Grainger’s books and am sorry to have reached the end, at least for now.

Two weeks of rest and recuperation - that's what the doctor ordered. Detective Sergeant DC Smith could listen to some music, make some of his own, and maybe even catch up on his reading; he is almost looking forward to it. And then there is a knock on the door. It's only his next-door neighbor, but it is the beginning of a sequence of events that will bring him face to face with some of the darkest episodes and the most dangerous people from his own past.

A look into the hard past for D. C. Smith
Reviewed: 12-03-21
While I found this book a bit melancholy it kept me staying up later and later to be with D. C. and delight in his sense of humor and appreciate the way his mind works.
The Irish and their land was wonderful. They have a passion for life that makes people jealous of them. I really thought the end of the story was written beautifully. Gildart Jackson was a true master and I could hang around that voice all the time.

32 hours is a marathon of a book and rare is a book that can keep one interested and invested in the story straight through. I love this series and have read all the previous books in the series but because of the pandemic I thought listening to something might help me sleep better. That’s a laugh! I never wanted to turn it off but needed to try for 8hrs so ended up going to bed earlier and earlier.
Give a listen to this one. Robert Glenister was brilliant. Simply a very gifted reader and I have almost a hundred in my library, and he is one of the tops.
