About this listen

"He might be a nobody, but he was their nobody and their first case."

The new Kings Lake Central murder squad is about to spend its first morning on team-building exercises and reviewing cold cases when the call comes in that the body of one of the city's rough sleepers has been found in a shop doorway. It happens, someone says, he isn't the first to die on the streets and he won't be the last, but the story the new team begins to uncover is far from routine.

New characters appear and new relationships form as the pressure grows on Detective Chief Inspector Cara Freeman to deliver a result and show that Kings Lake's first specialist team is worth the money. Detective Sergeant Christopher Waters discovers links to a previous investigation, learns that there is more than one way to run a successful squad and finds flower arranging more interesting than he would ever have imagined.

Grainger Just Doesn't Stop His Greatness!

Do Not Start This Book First! Nope, treat yourself to "An Accidental Death", the first in the DC series first. But beware... you will then become addicted to Grainger and find yourself binging. The DC Series and King's Lake Investigations are all part of a brilliantly written and narrated saga composed of sort of stand alone novels.

But it is a continuing saga... no not cliff hangers, yet the ensemble is so well imagined by both Grainger and Jackson that each depends on the last.

I can't say more than the 15 stars up there say. Well, yeah I can. As I write this Book 3 in this saga hasn't appeared and like an addict, I'm beginning to shake from withdrawal awaiting the next Kings Lake Investigation.

Twisty

Good twisty crime story with nice characters. Looking forward to more in this series. What else can I say?

Another great book in the successor series

The author still has a lot to say he uses his characters for a great commentary on the human condition and the fallability of all humans. The plot lines are great and the story has some great potential with lots of really good reactor and characters and the further development of some younger characters as well as aging gracefully in some other characters

Written and read with feeling and brightness.

Mystery, intrigue, comedy, romance, deep thoughts worth noting; not usual for a police procedural. Brilliantly done, as usual.

I loved all of it… I love how he leaves DC Smith in to the story

Eden Street

Really loved this story line and all its characters. Waters has learnt much from his former boss and his latest llove interest will be one to keep an eye on. Hope we won't have to wait too long for the next in this series. The narrator is brilliant and brings all the characters to life.

Love Peter Grainger Books

Dear Peter Grainger please hurry up and write another Murder Squad book. I love that you include DC, even in evanescence. I miss his voice, his character. It is so good to know he is still an influence for the present squad. His wisdom still honored, even in sideways glances. Eden street was absorbing and the story expertly constructed. Gildart Jackson’s narration to me is a perfect voice for these stories. Please get on with it and let us back in.

Left It Unresolved

Reader is left hanging. I need a list of how unnumbered books fit together so I don't have to read them all to find out what happened.

Narrator made most of the men sound like DC Smith--disconcerting and confusing!

Took a chance

It was one of THE best books I've listened to. The story was well laid out, the narration devine. The characters believable! couldn't ask for better!
