About this listen

In the epic fifth installment in this “compulsively readable” (People) series, Galbraith’s “irresistible hero and heroine” (USA Today) take on the decades-old cold case of a missing doctor, one which may be their grisliest yet.

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974.

Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on. And Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

As Strike and Robin investigate Margot’s disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer, and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly . . .

Critic reviews

"Rowling's emotionally intelligent portrayal of her protagonists never overwhelms the whodunit story line." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

"One of contemporary crime fiction's most delightful partnerships." (Seattle Times)

"Rowling's wizardry as a writer is on fulsome display in Lethal White, a behemoth of a novel that flies by in a flash. This is a crime series deeply rooted in the real world, where brutality and ugliness are leavened by the oh-so-human flaws and virtues of Galbraith's irresistible hero and heroine." (USA Today)

No Author does it better! I love everything she does. My absolute favorite all time author and I'm 76! Thank you.

Narrated beautifully- I love this series

I have binged this entire series from start to end. The narrator does a beautiful job with distinguishing the characters, who each have their own husk or accent or colloquialisms. One of the best narrators I have ever listened to. Waiting patiently for next book to be released…hurry!

Five books on and you mispronounce a characters name?

Love every book in this series! This one is just as great.

One little thing about the recording...her name is ILSA, not Isla! How did this happen? Editor or reader should’ve caught this. I know it’s nit picking but really, it was a distraction every time.

Better & Better

Brilliant series. Unfortunately chapter two is not complete; but that said it is a wonderful addition to the Comoran Strike series. Enjoyed the intricacies and twists in the cold case and the growth in the characters of Strike and Robin and their relationship. Looking forward already to book six.

never long enough

when my I told my husband on a Saturday night that I was starting a 30-hour cormoran strike book, he said I guess I'll talk to you on Tuesday. He was close, I finished on Thursday. I love these characters, I love the story, I love the detail, I cannot get enough. I am sad when it's over and cannot wait for the next one.

Worth the wait!

This next chapter for Cormoran and Robin is great! Lots of twists, real life and the right amount of angst and paranoia for our detective partners as they work on an intriguing cold case and several current ones. I highly recommend this one!!

Amazing

There was no n way I'd finish 30+ hours. I did, however, and I loved it as always with the author's work. I immediately vowed to read the Fairie Queen as an adult, but alas did not. Son, the chapter preambles were largely lost.
Waiting eagerly got more.
