Story
Jennifer Talldeer is Osage and Cherokee, granddaughter of a powerful Medicine Man. She walks a difficult path: contrary to tribal custom, she is learning a warrior's magics. A freelance private investigator, Jennifer tracks down stolen Native American artifacts. The construction of a new shopping mall uncovers fragments of human bone, revealing possible desecration of an ancient burial ground. Meanwhile, the sabotage of construction equipment at the site implicates many activists—particularly Jennifer's old flame, who is more attractive and dangerous than ever.

I liked the main characters, who were all Indians. The story included a lot of info about their traditions, but I don't know how accurate it was.

Story
The tranquility of a luxury cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish, and beautiful. A girl who had everything...until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: “I’d like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.” Yet under the searing heat of the Egyptian sun, nothing is ever quite what it seems.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, which kept my interest throughout even though I've seen the Poirot TV version of the story many times. Hearing Suchet's voice NOT sounding like Poirot (except when Poirot was actually speaking) was amazing.

Story
We've come a long way in the forty years since the Shongairi attacked Earth, killed half its people, and then were driven away by an alliance of humans with the other sentient bipeds who inhabit our planet. We took the technology they left behind, and rapidly built ourselves into a starfaring civilization. Because we haven't got a moment to lose. Because it's clear that there are even more powerful, more hostile aliens out there, and Earth needs allies. But it also transpires that the Shongairi expedition that nearly destroyed our home planet ... wasn't an official one.

the story is great, but the narrator unfortunately makes speakers from North Carolina and other parts of the US sound like British, especially lower classed Brits. that is just wrong and distracts from the story. I'm willing to bet even British people would find this weird.

Vera's thoughts
Reviewed: 02-24-24
I enjoy the Vera television series, and I found the characters' inner thoughts and feelings very interesting and a bit different from what the TV actors portray. It was a very good story in an interesting setting which had a lot to do with how events unfurled. I'll definitely listen to it again, when I've had time to forget details.

Horrible narrator
Reviewed: 02-21-24
Why did the publisher hire a narrator who obviously does not speak French, to read a story set in France and in which more than half the characters are French and use French words in their conversation? I loved this book, but if the narrator said "mon-sewer" once, she said it at least 100 times! Google the pronunciation, for goodness sakes!

I've loved these books since I read them when they first came out. The narrator was a good choice. Her voice is pleasant, and she manages to distinguish the many characters without using heavy-handed (or fake) accents.
Thank you for the audiobook and ebook versions! My paperbacks were getting worn out.
