Authentic Ozark Adventure
Reviewed: 09-01-24
This book has been on my to read list for over 45 years. Decided to listen on Audible and so very glad I did. The book is now in my all time Top 10. A great romance, adventure, mystery, and travelogue combined!! I agree with other reviewers in stating that the narrator (Robin Field) is really outstanding. Mr Field is able to capture the early 1900s Ozark Mountain manner of speech to perfection. I was thoroughly entertained.

Perhaps some reinforcement bias is at work for me regarding this book but I loved it. I've been a huge fan of index funds since the Great Recession of 08 (wish I had got on board 20 years sooner!!). Points are clearly given with strong supporting data and real life examples.

Offering listeners more than just a sneak peek into the dugout, Bob Forsch's Tales from the Cardinals Dugout takes fans into the clubhouse, out to the bullpen, onto the mound, up to the batter's box, around the base paths, along for the ride to spring training, and maybe even on a fishing trip or two in this tribute to the long and storied tradition of St. Louis Cardinals baseball. In his own witty style, Bo Forsch, known to many as "Forschie" during his playing days, has drawn from his exciting history with the Cardinals to bring fans stories that are laugh-out-loud funny.

Although I loved Bob Forsch as a Cardinal it was like someone said "Hey Bob, write down some jumbled non-chronological remembrances and let's see if we can sell it". incredibly disappointing!!!

What an entertaining and fun listen. The author read the book which is always more interesting to me. Michael is an enthusiastic narrator and makes the reader feel a part of the action. I pass our county fairgrounds each day to and from work - for the past 36 years. Then the one magical week in September always makes me yearn for the carnival life. Michael allows us to do that vicariously through this engrossing book. I was truly sad to reach the end and that's rare for me. So I won't ruin your enjoyment of listening to Michael spin his stories of his year living the roaming carnival life. I strongly recommend this highly entertaining audiobook!!

A true joy to listen to Bill Apter share his life story . Bill was THE wrestling journalist/photographer from the early and mid 70's - the time a 12 year old fell in love with Pro Wrestling. I eagerly scooped up The Wrestler and Inside Wrestling any time I had some extra money. His performance on the audiobook is really entertaining. I highly recommend to Pro Wrestling fans.

James A. Warren's battle-driven history shows how this elite culture has produced the best warriors in the country, through six decades, several open wars, and many smaller interventions. From their heroic performance in the Pacific War, against Japanese troops on god-forsaken islands, to their "tip-of-the-lance" leadership in key operations in the two Gulf Wars, the Marines have proven again and again that elite men with elite training are worth entire armies.

Terrific Concept
Reviewed: 02-22-22
Loved the concept, actors were amazing, story was great but the ending was anticlimactic. The entire production was fresh and a unique setting. I loved that. The actors were truly superb - I really enjoyed the feel of a live stage production. The ending just wasn't satisfying to me personally. However, it was truly an entertaining listen.

Story
In this audiobook, Simon Louvish traces the early lives of Stanley Jefferson and Norvell Hardy and the surrounding minstrel and variety theater, which influenced all of their later work. Louvish examines the rarely seen solo films of both our heroes, prior to their serendipitous pairing in 1927, in the long-lost short Duck Soup. The inspired casting teamed them until their last days. Both often married, they found balancing their personal and professional lives a nearly impossible feat.

Love Laurel and Hardy!!
Reviewed: 01-04-22
This is the most difficult review for me to-date. I've always loved Laurel and Hardy and some of my earliest memories from the 1960's revolve around their movies. This book is difficult to work through due to it's long length - >17 hours. The actual biographical portrait of the boys is great and I thoroughly enjoyed that. The complete filmography of their work is very tedious to work through. Great reference material but very hard to listen to due to the minute details of each work. Another element of the book is a critique of movies. I also struggled mightily in this part of the book. The author ravaged my two very favorite L&H movies (Flying Dueces and The Big Noise) and I probably took his criticism too personally. Summing up, this book is a magnificent reference work for L&H fans or researchers but not so good as a general read for L&H fans.
