Every book... start out a strong confident man.. Half way in he turns into a fool in action and attitude only to come back around at the end... We do not need the power, puy, then power again arc in every single book. So damn annoying it's almost unlistenable. Done with this author. it's a shame because it flows so well on the good parts.. sad I won't see the rest of the story. Then audible won't post my negative reviews. it's a joke anymore.

Possibly it's not to save a pair of drowning girls, not go 'viral' on social media and certainly not to let the local police take your passport, trapping you on a small 'party' island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. But Steve isn't the average guy, he's ex-military, ex-enforcer and ex-human. He's a one man nanite fuelled nightmare for those that cross the line, and he's decided that its time to clean up his act. He's going to make up for the things he's done, and save 'the little guys'.

worth a credit but beware if you are like me and despise the whole "I have a secret power and I can't let anyone find out" trope. Making characters make insanely stupid decisions. Same forced drama when a 5 minute conversation would eliminate 99% of it. Frigging hate that stupid crap, lazy as hell writing.

Story
When Alice Verianna went to sleep, she was just another teen from the Denver suburbs. She definitely didn't expect to be transported to a magical alternate dimension, inhabited by monsters and presided over by a mysterious System. Here, people resemble RPG characters and everyone has access to their own status screens. Grappling with the mechanics of the elusive System isn't the only challenge Alice faces. It seems an underground organization known as the Society of Starry Eyes has taken a particular interest in other dimensions.

Another story where the MC is a complete wuss. Woe is me, I had to defend myself from someone trying to kill me! I now have ptsd and hate myself.. blah blah blah stupid inane whining and complaining about how much of a pansy for chapter after chapter. You realize that the VAST majority of people who had to take the life of someone actively trying to kill them do NOT have an exostinsinsal crisis and freeze like cowards. You should and would be celebrating your survival you idiot, not puking over your poor emotions. Do you realize how people like this are seen and treated in a real fighting force? Certainly not how you portray it as those people are a danger to everyone around them, almost as much as the enemy. If you do not want your characters to be real fighters, stop writing them into those situations. If you are going to make them fighters, stop also making them wimps. Those two traits are NOT compatible in reality so stop trying to force it. I honestly start rooting for the bandit to kill the MC and loose all respect for the MC when you write them this way.

This is a few annoying tropes away from being a 5 for me.
Not a fan of any MC who freezes in indecision. Hesitation puts others in danger in life threatening situations and everyone with 5 seconds of real experience knows that and recognize it when it happens. People would HATE having him in a group in reality and would call him out for being a coward or endangering others when it happens. Stop pandering to the weak minded by trying to show them that even cowardly idiots can be heros. In reality they can't, won't and don't.
Also having the MC repeat the same thing he was just told as a question makes him once again seem like a moron. We heard the same explanation you gave him and all of us understood it's implications. For example. Joe says - You need to work on strength training. mc replies. strength training? Like he has no idea what strength training it or what it is for. You insult the intelligence of the reader and the MC when you do things like that. Common sense is 100% required for anyone in a situation like the MC is in. If you want to expound on the amazing training requirements then have him ask intelligent well considered questions, not just repeat the last statement as a question. It's lazy and annoying especially used as often as it is in this book. The incredulous repeat of something that seems insane is fine but not for the basic stupid info dumps especially in later books in the series.

Salvatore's worst nightmare is taking on a demon, but if he wants to stay at Quest Academy, how will he prove to himself and everyone else that he can succeed? He's going to have to take on an entire floor of a demonic tower before the first semester comes to a close. That's the least of Sal's problems as he navigates through his first student mission away from the school. Sal is more comfortable at the crafting table, but he needs to survive in a reclaimed zone outside of the academy with the worst team of misfits you could possibly imagine.

Humans have been pushed to the brink of extinction by an ever-evolving demonic threat. Portals are opening faster than ever, Towers are bursting into the skies, and Dungeons are being mined below the last safe havens of society. The demons are winning. Quest Academy stands defiantly against them as a place to train the next generation of Heroes. The Guild Association is holding the line but is in dire need of new blood and the powerful abilities they could bring to the battlefront. I enjoy my entertainment without the social justice warrior spin. There is a very good chance I never give you another dime in sales because you felt the need to add a *Them* delusional to a group of heros. Luckily the human race will die out all the sooner with these beliefs and remove the stupidity from existence. At least most of the story is good to listen to on the slow ride to damnation.

Silas is growing into the responsibilities weighing him down. Earth is struggling, but there is hope. The deals that Silas has made have brought resources and trainers to Earth. He's helped some leaders gain an understanding of what they will face. His team has continued to grow but now he finds himself facing the greatest challenge to any Forerunner, the Wild Hunt. He'll be hunted but also have to hunt other Forerunners while forging a shaky alliance with those he can't trust. Even more disturbing, it seems like there might be more than one system to choose from.

I knew there was a reason I had stopped this series. These books have great parts that almost make up for the incredibly annoying parts. Narration is great as always as well.
but you get crap like,
he raises his sword the strike the killing blow! but before I do. let's talk about it for 90% of the chapter and almost die 4 different times in the same fight only to remember the skill that I have been using before that will save the day in this fight. Ohh wait!! that's not the day saved but actually a huge plot twist that we won't explain till we are about to die again 3 books from now, but we will tease you with scraps. Endless soliliquies and coming back from the knifes edge of death over and over again.
Look we all enjoy an underdog overcoming the odds, but every fight?! You do know how incredibly annoying it is when you build up then crash then build up and crash and build up and crash then win but there is a catch...
once I'm about half way thru this guys books I usually just end up skipping almost entire chapters to skip all those inevitable near death experiences.
The whole conflicted hero crap where he is tempted by the hells is also off putting. Mother fathers come thru a portal killing and yet you are gonna question their intentions? Next book will probably be all about how great he'll actually is and it's all just a misunderstanding. I don't belive in that crap in rl so this isn't a religious objection just a logic issue.
Also get the same stupid questions from the MC like many authors in this genre do. stuff like, I am fire! MC asks So does that mean you are fire? Fire answers I am not going to answer something you already know. Even the author knows it's a stupid question but chooses to make the ask anyways.
If you enjoy authors that try to twist you in knots of happiness and panic often in what would be one page of text then this is the author for you.

Magic powers? His own mech? A whole airship of gorgeous women desperate for his genes? Yes, please! Paralyzed by a drunk driver, let go from his job, and stuck in a sad, stagnant town in the middle of nowhere, Joseph Locke was having the worst day of his life. And then he died. But considering that he wakes up with a brand new body, in the cockpit of a badass steampunk robot, on an airship of nothing but hot babes, his next life may not be all that bad. Especially when he learns that he’s a void mage—the rarest and most powerful of all mages on the world of Haven.

So one thing for either the author or narrator, Haphazard not Halfhazard. Hap not Half. Only mention it because you did it twice in two different books in the series.
The whole massive penis thing kinda makes it so like 99% of your audience can't empathize with the Locke. A little above average would have been plenty. Honesty most women I have met would one and done him being that big.
kinda annoying when the MC asks questions with an obvious logical answer. It would be one thing to ask a question to clarify, but he asks like something is incredible that is logical.
Kinda annoying that fights are sometimes so cliche. like "whatever you do, keep your distance." next line, ¤"The drake wraps around him and moves up his armor".
Locke makes TONS of idiot choices and zones out at horribles times putting others in life threatening danger. If I was the captain I would not have let him back in a mech till he proved he wasn't an idiot who takes unexpected actions in combat before he killed someone.
The sex scenes are sometimes way to long in my opinion. Like an entire 20 minute chaper being all sex. Let's be real here, most of us are not jerking anything while listening to an audiobook, so no need to make it that long so often. Kinda gets to the point where it is just filler to skip.

Reincarnation Secrets with odd choices
Reviewed: 02-06-25
Another story where the MC keeps progression secret from family and friends until they inevitably find out and have the FORCED drama of the reveal. Mostly good story with interesting progression. He literally was reborn there and lived there his entire life but it is somehow implied that he still has no idea how this world works. Did he grow up in a bubble? Just because you skipped a couple thousand days in the story does not mean he learned nothing. Of course you have the almost required virtue signaling thrown in. The horrible regret for killing a murderer, blah blah whine whine. Suck it up buttercup you're a grown ass man, not a 7 year old child. Getting tired of the MCs of these being pansies or drama queens. There is a big market out there for isakai without these same exact character traits, you know like probably 95% of the rest of humanity. Why constantly showcase the guy/girl with PTSD or mental issues like that is the average person. How is the average reader supposed to relate to the special characters? Can we get the fantasy without the BS therapy sessions. I truly believe these isakai are either written by the same AI or maybe a homework assignment from therapists worldwide. Like they are trying to drum up business and increase acceptance of mental issues in every single book. Gets very tiring.
