Change is coming to Quest Academy. Can Sal rise to the occasion?
When the second years nearly lose their lives in a failed excursion, it's the first years that pay the price. The curriculum is being radically altered to challenge the students, which means the stakes just got a lot higher.
Salvatore's worst nightmare is taking on a demon, but if he wants to stay at Quest Academy, how will he prove to himself and everyone else that he can succeed? He's going to have to take on an entire floor of a demonic tower before the first semester comes to a close.
That's the least of Sal's problems as he navigates through his first student mission away from the school. Sal is more comfortable at the crafting table, but he needs to survive in a reclaimed zone outside of the academy with the worst team of misfits you could possibly imagine.
It's time to push the limits of Mythcrafting…

Sal is an insecure teenager. He is powerful but not very ambitious. He doesn't really even know what he wants in life. He often seems like he's working against his own incredible potential. The way he sees himself is constantly changing and he's a step behind aspiring hero's like Erica because he was so sheltered growing up. His parents are auctioneers for christ sake. He's kind of soft. To him, demons were a horrifying reality that he was never even told about, he only knew that they existed. To compare his capability to the children of hero's who've been essentially trained since birth to be heros is ridiculous. Keep in mind it's only been less than 3 months. He's accomplished a shit-ton.
What's frustrating is Sal can be a push over but it's not because he's a punk he just lacks confidence and overthinks how his actions will be perceived. He's a teenager not a self-assured adult. All things considered this is a great story so far. I'm definitely excited to see Sal overcome his crippling trepidation and be great.
*The books need to span more time than a month per installment though because the wait is too long for such an incremental story*
Deeply engaging but incredibly frustrating

what I love most about this book is the way the character centers around the talents and plays out all the possibilities of the skills. in a business type of mentality with a real thought process. it introduces a storyline that feels authentic to a real person which makes it relatable and engaging. So engaging it was nearly impossible to stop listening. As an avid audiobook junkie I would enjoy if this series was 10 books long. I have pre-ordered the 3rd book and would pre-pre-order a 4th.
With this writing style I will likely seek out the author for other work and listen to it all.
NARRATION NOTE
The frustrating thing about other books is the constantly changing voice pitches between mixed narrators. this book does not have that problem. In the 2 books that are out the different voices are consistent which makes following the story a real joy. The main narrator is as good as Will Wheaton or Scott Brick which says a lot as those are darn near the best to listen to. Well done on the duet style.
I look forward to book 3
