The unreality of the reality
Reviewed: 05-07-25
The whole plot, acting, and story was downright scary as the potential reality of future possibilities. I could identify with the fear and terror, portrayed with complete certainty of one who had lived this part of my life. It was riveting and so I pushed through to the end…totally unprepared for the outcome.

Great performance with intriguing storyline

The author captured the emotions and upheaval of the main character after her realization of who she wasn’t. Her journey to discover who she is and what she wants to be takes her on a journey across 4 countries to find her ancestors and the part they may have played in her past. Although a little weird at first reading, she is “visited” by those very characters. The performances were incredible as the actor was able to form the accents of each visitor’s country. I loved walking along the streets of the villages she visited. Her emotions were portrayed with clear and sincere descriptions. I definitely recommend this novel and plan to find more of the author’s works.

This was an incredible story of a surgical nurse on active duty serving in the horrors of the Vietnam war. The mutilated bodies, the constant fear, friendships forged that lasted a lifetime, and the betrayals of men she loved resulted in her losing herself. Only she could heal herself with the help of family, friends, counselors, and it took a lifetime. And she found herself and helped other female Vietnam vets also find themselves. I loved this novel!

What a story!! I was drawn in from the very beginning. Great plot! The character development was great. The performances were so enjoyable to listen to. I have started so many books the last few months. One third of the way into the book I stop and then delete it…always disappointed. Not this one! Highly recommend it.

Remembering my Southern roots

I loved the way the people in this story fell back on their faith to guide them. There were lots of Southern “things” I had forgotten and enjoyed recalling them. I do think there was maybe one or two too many story lines going on, but it was all tied up with a pretty little bow in the end.

It was easy for Elizabeth. She married the man she loved, bore him two children and made a home for him which was the envy of their friends. It was harder for Ruth. She married Elizabeth’s son and then found that, somehow, she could never quite measure up. Isolation, deceit and betrayal fill the gaps between the two individual women and between their different worlds. In this complex thriller, Philippa Gregory deploys all her insight into what women want and what women fear, as Ruth confronts the shifting borders of her own sanity.

The grating voice of the MIL
Reviewed: 06-19-24
While the acting might be good under “acting” standards, the voice inflections and snotty attitudes of the family was so irritating that i threatened to quit reading multiple times. At chapter 10, I read the raving reviews on Amazon and so continued, thinking I was missing something & it was going to get better. Chapter 20, the end…it didn’t get better. Total waste of time.
