Story
Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

It is always interesting to find an audiobook read by its own author. Having written the book, they know very well how to "narrate" and deliver the story and it gives such a huge impact on the experience.

Story
Dante's Divine Comedy is considered to be not only the most important epic poem in Italian literature, but also one of the greatest poems ever written. It consists of 100 cantos, and (after an introductory canto) they are divided into three sections. Each section is 33 cantos in length, and they describe how Dante and a guide travel through Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.

C'est magnifique !

I enjoyed, very much so, the narration of the story. However, I find that there's a certain level of difficulty to it that hindered me from fully grasping the very thought of the story.
In my personal experience, I would read the story first before I enjoy it within the confines of audiobook. That way, it gives more room for thought process and it is easily accessible to go back to certain passages that you would like to absorb better.

An underwhelming read

I began reading this with a strong desire for a fluffy m/m romance. It did give me that but I was not completely blown away by it.
The story follows two character stories which intertwines as the audiobook progresses. As the title say, each of them are kind of obsessed with someone. Of course, their certain someone were each other — they just had no clue. What I find distasteful of the story is the lack of interaction between the two characters. Without going too much into details, the romance do not happen until the end of the story. Which, to me, is anti-climatic. It could have been paced a little better and events could have been injected well within the story allowing more collision between the two main characters. The focus revolved strongly round the background of each character. It would have been a good idea if this was not a short story. But considering it is, I think no one really expects a fully fleshed out character with a grandiose backstory.
As for the narration, I did not particularly connect with any of the two narrators. I think that their performance were good but it is not something that I would say, “Oh, I’m definitely looking into listening more from this narrator,” kind of moment. As much as I was okay with it, it felt a little flat for me overall.
This was actually an almost DNF read for me. It did not excite me whatsoever half-way through the story; however, I decided to plow through it considering it is quite a simple read as it is in audio. I reached a point where it was a wee cute and I enjoyed those fun part of crushing but it did not change my overall feeling for this audiobook. I was underwhelmed by this, to say the least.

Story
It’s been 10 years since a group of college friends made a vow: that the first to get rich would rent a boat and invite the others on a cruise. Now, the friends find themselves marooned at a luxurious hotel on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. While their boat is being repaired, they can’t help but observe the daily routine of a fellow hotel guest - a mysterious, white-bearded stranger who sits on the veranda each night and smokes one cigarette, sometimes two.

Lacking

I find that this book has the whimsy of a Japanese literature's magical realism yet lacks proper execution. There are so much in the story that was left unsaid and it became nothing more than a fleeting memory. It was underwhelming.
The narration was good. It gave a sense of regality to the listener and it was effective in portraying the old man from the story.

I am rendered speechless with the amazing narration this book has ! I have a love-hate relationship with King's writing and finally decided to give reading his work via audiobook a try. And boy, oh boy, was it a complete amazement !

I find myself grinning and being quite affected by the story. There's really nothing special to it, but it served it's purpose and that's good enough for me.
