About this listen

Brimming with humor and powerful emotion, prepare to fall in love with this modern-day nod to a classic rom com.

Matt Mazola never expected a popular relationship podcast to change his life, but that’s exactly what happens when he tunes in and hears a young woman share her heartfelt wish that her grieving father find love again. The widower she describes - Hugo James - captures Matt’s attention, and he sets off on a crash course to meet the other man.

But Matt soon discovers that he and Hugo are an unlikely match. Matt is a 20-something city guy who’s still searching for his life’s purpose while Hugo is an accomplished 45-year-old Brit living in the Hamptons. Why would Hugo be interested in guy like him? But fate seems to have a plan in store for them, and when destiny steps in, who are Matt and Hugo to stop its irresistible pull?

So sweet!

This was such a sweet and fun listen, a take-off on Sleepless in Seattle. I liked getting to know Matt and Hugo individually, they each had compelling stories in their own ways. Hearing Hugo's back story had me tearing up. I just wish more time had been spent with them once they finally got together, though. There was so much build-up and background, which I did enjoy, but we really only got about 5 minutes of them as a couple. It was definitely a case of insta-love, which isn't bad by any means, and the epilogue was cute. I just wanted to spend time with them as a couple.
Teddy was terrific, per usual! He never just reads the story, he really does perform his parts. His voice is so well suited for characters in their 20s and 30s.
Robbie Martino is a new to me narrator. He was wonderful as Hugo, but his other characters weren't as strong.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable listen.

Cute

This was a cute story and a fun way to spend a few hours. The narration was great for both characters. I would have liked to see the characters together more, but I liked them as individuals and got how the fit even if there wasn’t really any relationship development.

Both relationships are magical

This was a cute spin on Sleepless in Seattle. I really liked the fact that Hugo’s relationship with his husband wasn’t played down to make his relationship with Matt more amazing. Hugo knew he had hit magic twice.

Straight female loved this story!

This book was available under audible plus so I thought I would check it out. I’m so glad I did! Yes, it is about two gay males, but the story included both families and their side stories. I greatly enjoyed their family journeys, as well as the final chapters.

For those concerned about any gay sexual activities, in this book there is only one slight self pleasuring scene. It in no way distracted from the story, although I’m not sure I would have missed it if it wasn’t there. The overall story was just that good, as it followed along with one of my favorite movies, “you’ve got mail“.

A sweet story

Just a nice, sweet story. The performances are excellent. It’s probably just me, but I wish some of the secondary characters were developed a little more. That said, I still would recommend it

Interesting story

The performances were good. The only thing that was annoying is every time Matt narrated female voices didn’t come across as females, because they were too flamboyant. Female narrators speaking in female voices don’t sound flamboyant, and for some reason the narrator for Matt doesn’t realize that.

Sleepless in New York

This is a quick listen that has the same general plot as Sleepless in Seattle so if the title isn’t a spoiler for you then SPOILER ALERT you probably won’t enjoy this book. Go into it knowing the only differences movie to this book are that it’s a MM Romance (disagree with other reviewer that Romance has to contain conflict to be labeled romance)! It’s a teenage girl instead of a younger boy and there’s a dog thrown into the mix.

Fun listen. English accent ok (I will agree not great) and did like the Instagram side story.
