Lovely, well written emotional mystery/drama with sensual detail without being pornography. The regency period written the right way. The narrator is excellent. Vocal characterizations with distinctive expertize.

CAUTION!

Overall
1 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 11-12-09

This story contains a thinly veiled rape. The main character is assaulted in her sleep. The writer tries to justify the rape by having the victim claim responsibility for it. Because the victim is later convinced she "wanted to be loved". Then the rapist puts her in chains and convinces her she was to blame for the loss of her virginity.

I should have realized the story was going to go like this when he deliberately gets her drunk and try's to take advantage of her earlier in the story. But again the writer writes that she wanted it all along.

I was so enraged that I could not listen to another word. I would give this book zero stars if I could. Unfortunately, the website is for selling books and not protecting its members.

A miss

Overall

This is one of the worst written and narrated books I've ever read. I'm glad I only paid half price for it. Johanna Lindsey's storytelling is so hit or miss that you never know what your going to get until after you have purchased it.

For some reason I have yet to figure out Laural Merlington insists on imitating the characters laughter. Both male and female! It has to be the most annoying things a reader has ever done.

Inconsistent

Overall
3 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 11-10-09

I bought this compilation because I am a fan of several of the writers. However, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed in the quality of several of the stories. If your not a regular reader of some of these already established characters it may be confusing. I've always felt a short story should stand on its own rather than a continuation of an existing "universe" or storyline.

Charlaine Harris' story Bacon is in the same universe of the Sookie Stackhouse series but the story itself is a stand-alone with new characters. The reader is excellent.

However, Jim Butcher's story is the same character I've read in other compilations and I still feel I am missing something. I've not read any of the Dresden books.

Patricia Brigss and Rachel Caine deliver good stories with emotion. And the readers are interesting.

PN Elrod's contribution was ridiculous and I feel completely incongruous with the overall theme of the rest of the stories. The reader is awful. I had to skip two thirds of the story.

Violent

Being a serious Sookie Stackhouse fan I would have bought this to add to my collection. But I was disappointed with how violent this particular chapter in Sookie's tale was. The narrator is very good and always enjoyable to listen to. All that being said I can't wait for the next Sookie story

Very amusing

This story is very amusing. Although I would have personally liked the "romance" to be a bit more descriptive and steamy. The premise of a confirmed rake and bachelor being saddled with 4 beautiful wards is highly entertaining.

Enjoyed the story

I enjoyed the story, writing and characters but the narration really got on my nerves. Her attempts at male voices is seriously distracting. The main male character, James Mallory comes across like a 75 year old geezer. The narrator voices male laughter in a completely unnecessary and truly annoying way.

Story ok, Reader bad

This story was interesting but the reader ruined it for me. With all of the action and dangerous situations the heroine found herself in it should have been an exciting listen. Instead I found myself bored and fast forwarding.

Erotica at its best

Overall

If you are embarrassed by heavy sexual themes you should not read/listen to Sarah McCarty's novels.

The imagery is fabulous, the descriptions of the locale makes you want to visit the West.

Personally, I love her writing and wish she would publish more.

I enjoy listening to Jason Adams and consider myself a fan.
