About this listen

Today's hottest urban fantasy authors come together in this delicious brew that crackles and boils over with tales of powerful witches and dark magic!

In Charlaine Harris' "Bacon", a beautiful vampire joins forces with a witch from an ancient line to find out who killed her beloved husband.

In "Seeing Eye", by Patricia Briggs, a blind witch helps sexy werewolf Tom Franklin find his missing brother - and helps him in more ways than either of them ever suspected.

And in Jim Butcher's "Last Call", wizard Harry Dresden takes on the darkest of dark powers - the ones who dare to mess with his favorite beer.

For anyone who's ever wondered what lies beyond the limits of reality, who's imagined the secret spaces where witches wield fearsome magic, come and drink deep. Let yourself fall under the spell of this bewitching collection!

Generally enjoyed

I purchased this audio book to get a taste of some authors which had been recommended to me (of all the authors included in the compilation I have never read any other books by them).

I enjoyed all the stories in this compilation, although from personal taste I liked some better than others.

Nice work

This is a very nice compilation of stories that compliment each other well. I enjoyed how each of the authors stories were in the same times period and actually crossed over one another to create a complete picture and world.

I liked it! But!!!

The Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter is my favorite! But whoever this woman is who narrated the store is horrible and her Jane voice made me want to cry.

Short stories.

This book contains several fascinating short stories, some better than others. But would definitely recommend this to friends.

I wanted to like it...

Given that this is a collection of short stories I anticipated that I may not connect with every story but that there would be a few to stand out. Unfortunately, many of the stories had slow pacing or were narrated poorly.

A Wonderful Collection

This is a book I’ve gone back to again and again. Excellent narration and stories from old favorite and new favorite authors. When I’m in the mood for something relaxing and familiar this is one that doesn’t get old and stale.
There aren’t too many anthologies that I’ve listened to where I can honestly state that every story is worth listening to repeatedly but this is one. Well worth the credit.

Inconsistent

I bought this compilation because I am a fan of several of the writers. However, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed in the quality of several of the stories. If your not a regular reader of some of these already established characters it may be confusing. I've always felt a short story should stand on its own rather than a continuation of an existing "universe" or storyline.

Charlaine Harris' story Bacon is in the same universe of the Sookie Stackhouse series but the story itself is a stand-alone with new characters. The reader is excellent.

However, Jim Butcher's story is the same character I've read in other compilations and I still feel I am missing something. I've not read any of the Dresden books.

Patricia Brigss and Rachel Caine deliver good stories with emotion. And the readers are interesting.

PN Elrod's contribution was ridiculous and I feel completely incongruous with the overall theme of the rest of the stories. The reader is awful. I had to skip two thirds of the story.
