Interesting idea destroyed in yet another attempt to look woke.
Audio mixing was horrible as well as if some people were on microphone and others were not.

to much swearing
Reviewed: 09-11-21
the story is cute, the reader does a good job at the voices, but the sheer stupidity of the protagonists and the unseemly amount of swearing made it hard to enjoy the book as much as I would have otherwise.

I can't help but feel that the movie was better
Reviewed: 07-04-21
I had seen the movie in my youth, and came across the audio book version on sale. I could not resist picking it up, but found myself a little surprised.
the performer was mediocre, but really surprised me was how angry the tone of the book was compared to the movie version. I wonder if the performer misread the tone of frustration from Charlie as anger, or if the book would read in print how it came across in audio form.
I will have to put this book firmly in the "I am glad I read it once", but very glad I got it at half cost to be sure...

Story
Originally named A Tangled Skein, this is the first Sherlock Holmes story. The real strength and the unique quality of the novel lies in the introduction of Holmes and Watson to each other - and those dark early scenes when a corpse is discovered in a derelict house in southeast London. The ultimate crusader against crime and criminals, Holmes' genius is revealed here for the very first time.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Oh how far Frankenstein has come.

I'm honestly glad that I've now both read and listened to Modern Prometheus as a story. There are those who still argue that this is the best of the Frankenstein books, and certainly it is the quintessential story as it is the origin of the tales. I found myself, however, longing for more details from "The Monster's Perspective" , and then asking myself which was truly the monster. If you've never ready the story, it should be on your reading list, especially if you enjoy tales of suspense surrounding the Frankenstien Monster...

In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

This book was... acceptable... in the sense that, if any of the background information about the people of Alaska is true, it provides some small insight into life in that region. That's the best that can be said about the book. The story is slow, it's done in the podcast/audio docudrama style and doesn't flow well. the story bills itself like a thriller, but it was nothing of the sort.

I have been a fan of Daniel Abraham from another fantasy series he wrote. When I learned that he was one of the co-authors working under the name James S.A. Corey, I immediately looked into the series.
the Leviathan Wakes is an excellent start to the series. I've enjoyed it immensely and it has caused me to purchase the other books and novellas that are part of the series.
If you enjoy a good sci-fi series you'll enjoy this one for sure.

Scot Brick is by far my favorite voice performer for audio books. I felt like he did an excellent job on this book, though based on the story, it seemed there were times when he struggled a little for finding the correct voice for it.
I'm enjoying Brett's writing style, though there are times when he switches "perspectives" that can make the story feel repetitive.
Otherwise the story was engaging, and you are able to appeciate and root for the protagonist of the story.
