Story
The only mortal daughter of two sea gods, and a priestess of Athena, Medusa was a woman who thought she had found her place in the world. But when Medusa suffers a horrific violation at the hands of Poseidon, Athena is outraged over the desecration of her name and sends a message by transforming Medusa into the snake-haired monster of legend. With one look, any who meet her gaze is turned to stone. Word of her monstrosity travels fast, igniting a king’s fear so greatly that he commands the boy-hero Perseus to bring him her head.

Wow. This is a compelling, compassionate and engaging version of a story I have heard many times, but never in this way. Never has it felt so approachable or close. I don’t want to give too much of the composition away, but will say that the ending could not be better.

It’s 2006. After a string of rejections from men who tell her they could never, ever, ever see her “that way,” awkward third-grade teacher Micaela Blei signs up for a mysterious course called “The Divine Feminine,” and feels like she might have found the key to the perfect life. Turns out if you’re an A student, you can get an A in anything–including men. Pretty soon she’s learning to "conjure" her desires with vision boards, flirtations, and even a daring jumbotron viewing party for her, ahem ... "divine center."

I loved this book. It's a quick listen that is easily devoured in one or two sittings (or dog walks in my case). For anyone who ever tried to improve anything about themselves (is there anyone, other than sociopaths, who haven't?). This book resonates, entertains, and progresses to an excellent finish. Well worth the read.

Not for me. To depressing.
I thought it would pick up, maybe it does after a couple of hours, but it is slow and tediously written. Surprisingly tepid for Liane Moriarty, whose writing I usually love.

I listened to this book over a few morning walks with my Wire-Haired Fox Terrier, Pierre.
It is sweet, kind, and observant, with some key takeaways on what we can look for and learn from our dog friends.
Cesar is not afraid to be real and vulnerable in his storytelling, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who has an affinity with their pup.
The narrator is good too. He sounds nothing like Cesar, which initially seemed like a strange choice. But, his voice is warm and soothing, so it worked well.

A nostalgic and honest depiction of 90's pop
Reviewed: 12-17-23
The Spice Girls were heavily featured on the soundtrack of my teens and early twenties.
Hearing Mel C talk about her struggles and triumphs—and tracksuits, in her own words made me feel empathetic and nostalgic.
Her story takes you on a journey that is at once heart-wrenching and optimistic. Ultimately Mel C shows great perseverance and Sporty Spice high-kicking spirit. It is an honest depiction of 90's pop; hard work, insane schedules, Top of the Pops, and some life revelations (no spoilers here). There are some themes you would expect and quite a few that added more depth than I expected. Bravo!

Story
The Unexpected Spy is the riveting story of Walder's tenure in the CIA and, later, the FBI. In high-security, steel-walled rooms in Virginia, Walder watched al-Qaeda members with drones as President Bush looked over her shoulder and CIA Director George Tenet brought her donuts. She tracked chemical terrorists and searched the world for Weapons of Mass Destruction. She created a chemical terror chart that someone in the White House altered to convey information she did not have or believe, leading to the Iraq invasion.

Story
Marissa Dahl, a shy but successful film editor, travels to a small island off the coast of Delaware to work with the legendary - and legendarily demanding - director Tony Rees on a feature film with a familiar logline: Some girl dies. It's not much to go on, but the specifics don't concern Marissa. Whatever the script is, her job is the same. She'll spend her days in the editing room, doing what she does best: Turning pictures into stories. But she soon discovers that on this set, nothing is as it's supposed to be - or as it seems.
